Update on the egg-eaters:

I've been putting eggs (that I've marked) in the nest boxes, and replacing them as they eat them.  I think the overload factor is already working, I retrieved five fresh eggs yesterday evening.  They seemed to eat a small amount of the store eggs I stashed in the boxes, and left the fresh ones alone, which is great.  I found one small egg on the floor of the coop this morning, so there is still someone who hasn't quite figured out what the nesting boxes are for--but they haven't even been there a week--I'll allow it.

Going well so far, it seems! Thanks for the ideas

When I read the article on the "give them more" strategy, the first thing I thought is "I wonder if they felt like they needed more protein and now they are getting it?" If that's even a tiny factor, then having "enough" would stop the egg eating. Make sense to anyone else?

Izzy - so sorry ((HUGS))
Ash - ADORABLE!!!!

yeah I am done with winter!!!! Usually never bothered me but now with chickens what a nuisance! !!! And trudging thru the snow and snow banks to feed, egg collection, and coop care in the dark falling thru snow...yup all done. They all looked out the door around me squawking like "really more snow"???

Has anyone been to TSC recently? Do we have chicks yet? I called a few weeks ago and they weren't sure if it would be end of February or beginning of March. I'm hoping soon because I'd like to brood with my soon-to-hatch chicks.

I called my local store (Bangor) a couple of days ago, and they had no information yet, but did say that they would have chicks in March. He told me he'd know where they were coming from and what breeds would be offered within the next several days. Blue Seal is using Meyer Hatchery. Paris Farmer's Union is using Mt Healthy.
