Maine

Congrats chickengirl!!

Yup, lazygardener, I saved that one at the office a few months ago. I thought it might make a good dividing wall. Always thinking!

I also had ducks arrive- One Saxony is out of the egg drying and two more have pipped. We also now have four of my son's Bantam Cochins. I think most of them are blue mottled right now, but its tough to tell. One might be a black mottled. More due over night into tomorrow. These are just the early runners. And there are a few Polish and a few Sultans in the mix I hope to see out. I am letting the Sultans go but I have to say I have mixed feelings about that. I suppose its because they are just so endearing. Chickens can be hand tamed and run for treats and all that bu these ones really are so comical and friendly. They are in my top three breeds of gentle and friendly chickens BUT I have to get in gear on the garden and work on the summer camp I have in mind plus I have applied to a third p/t job that probably won't start till late in the summer. That gives me just enough time to grow out the birds and get most of the garden set up before heading out.

Rhubarb came in by the truck loads this week. I need some ideas other than the standard strawberry, pineapple and pork chops. PM me ideas please.

I love baklava and chocolate, and most things dessert. A lot of our rhubarb goes to waste. A friend made a rhubarb sauce that was good. The only way I use it now, other than regular pies, is to make a bunch of those frozen pie-in-a-jar portions that SCG posted about so long ago. It is so nice to have instant homemade pie in the freezer.

My chicks are 2 weeks old, and while I have some guesses on their sex for many, others I have no clue. I know time will tell, but I make myself crazy trying to figure it out. I would probably do well with an auto-sexing breed.

Rhubarb? Yum. Now I really want to make a pie. One of the few chocolate desserts that I love that does not contain chocolate. The other is baklava.

Chocolate rhubarb without chocolate? I am confused. Baklava is delightful and a lot of work but... with rhubarb??

Still only one duck out. Its crying like a banshee. Four Cochins out so far. They are all due today technically so hopefully when I get home there will be a bunch to put in the brooder.

I wanted to add that I went to the elementary school to candle eggs yesterday for two second grade classes. I answered question after question for nearly an hour. It was like a rapid fire Q and A for presidential running, I swear! I was exhausted after.

Don't forget to post pics!!!!! I'm hoping for at least one of mine to hatch!!

Ash, I'm so glad you took the time to work with these kids. I know what you mean about all the WHY, WHAT IF, HOW COME questions. I swear that my 2 can give me brain cramps, and especially love to do so when I'm driving, and trying to find my way to some place new, or not miss my exit. My 12 y.o. especially loves to play "stump the Grammy."
