Beautiful pics Widgett. If money was no object, I'd have a huge farm, and horses and ducks, and goats... and a huge pond stocked with fish, and a huge green house... and a couple of young energetic farm hands to manage it. And I'd have an awesome tractor with all of the toys to attach to it!!!

QuailTrail: I'm guessing that your sunflower seed is poor quality. You might try a touch of bleach in the soak water. Don't soak it as long initially, but rinse often enough to keep it from drying out after that. Perhaps a bit cooler temp between rinses.
 
I just use what ever I buy to fill the bird feeders.  I think my last bag came from TSC.  I'm also thinking that if you buy it in the early fall, it might be fresher than that which is purchased at the end of the winter.  
That's where I got mine. ..I will try a new bag and see if that makes a difference.
