Maine

I just put them right in the run and caught something the first or second night. The smaller rats, even if they trigger it, can escape through the holes, but the bigger rats are there to stay. Be careful, though. HAH traps are not species specific.

What would you do if.... you went out to check the trap and Mr Stripey and Stinky was in there?

You don't even have to leave food in a car. That stupid squirrel chewed the mat of the trunk in my Prius into little pieces. Anyway for 2 nights in a row we have heard the chickens making big commotion. My husband went out around 3 am and saw lots of tracks but no animal. He thinks it was a racoon from the tracks.

So what's everyone's take on this weather? I keep hearing lots of complaints about all of the rain and no white xmas, but I for one am not complaining! I would so much rather have rain than have to shovel and slip on ice! Egg production seems to have perked up again, too... maybe the warmer weather?

IMO, every day this winter that it's not 20 below, a blizzard or an ice storm is one less day of misery between now and spring. I'll take the rain. My girls are out foraging every chance they get this winter, compared to last winter where they didn't step foot in the snow. I'm getting 11/15 eggs with supplemental light. The girls are absolutely inhaling their FF. Most days i put it out in the snow during the warm part of the day, then move it in on their pallet for the night. Right now, they don't have a run as the winter freeze came before I had the coop totally finished, so didn't waste any time putting up a run for them. Can't wait to start one in the spring... to keep them off the deck. They do have access to a 6 x 7 tractor that is covered. They've worn a path through the snow to that tractor! Happy day! Today was a bit longer than yesterday! Spring is coming!!!

I got my BYC calendar, today. Great pictures!

Will be putting trap in 10x10 dog run. Hope pepe le peu won't visit. We haven't had a visit inside the pen since DH lowered the gate door.
