Maine

So, again this year I have ended up with cockerels & still live where they are not allowed. I'm on number 4-successfully found homes for the Paint Silkie, SLW, & Jersey Giant. The one I have now is a non bearded buff Silkie, Roscoe. He is so cute & funny! I plan to keep him until he gets noisy. If anyone is interested in him, let me know.

My rooster has been a gentleman with the pullets.  But started mating them when they were approaching POL.  I saw one squat for him last week.  Shortly after that, got my first pullet egg.  How many females for the one rooster?  My biggest concern is if there are not enough mature females to go around, or if there is more than one rooster.  I've found that more than one roo is a recipe for disaster, as they tend to gang up on the most submissive female and repeatedly gang rape her.  (my rooster is not terribly gentlemanly when it comes to getting the act done, but he's good in all other respects.)

No, just one rooster in that flock. I've tried two roosters before. They were hatch-mates, but it was constant turmoil. This rooster has 12 adult hens (although two are broody and avoid him). I'll be introducing 8 pullets. Some of the older hens that lived with other roosters in the past don't squat for this guy, although he's been here a year now. He chases them around, and sometimes gives up. I imagine the pullets seem like easy prey to him. I guess I'll try again at 18 weeks, and lock them back up if he is too rough. I just wish he were more like my other rooster. I wonder if he will change as he gets older? The gentleman rooster is 4 years old, and this guy is just a year.

Not as of yesterday, didn't get the mail today, finished this puppy up instead just a few minutes ago:

I hope to get it soon... will be starting on my row by row's soon. The last one I absolutely need for the quilt i have in my mind is lincoln plantation... i dont think anyone lives out there.

OMG your quilt is so awesome! I love it! I wish I could sew.. Hey, I deliver the mail in Lincoln (the lincoln north of bangor). But I think you may mean the lincoln plantation in oxford county, right? Have you ever made a quilt with a chicken design on it?
