Hello MC. I am also a bit enamored with Icelandics. I love their little spike on top of their heads! But, chose to go in a different direction. Am pleased with the way my flock is turning out. This first generation is showing better form than all of their parents! I think, for the most part, I owe all of that to my avatar roo.
My daughter got me into this breed she was at a camp and the counselor had some for sale so we bought some and we just fell in love with them and after learning that they are rare decided to help the breed. Learning as I go and they have great personality and good foragers/layers. We also have 6 buff orps which are also nice breed they are 4m old waiting for eggs hopefully soon
I will have some late winter or early spring going to incubate some eggs as soon as arrive from a breeder that I ordered them from plus some eggs from hens that I have still waiting on some pullets to lay and will incubate those as well. As of rite now only have two mature hens and one has chicks that are 5 wks old so she isnt laying rite now. I will post when have some available trying to get a flock going then can sell so keep an eye out for my post or if interested in hatching eggs can sell some of those when pullets start laying
Yes my breeding icelandics are by themselves have three seperate coups/runs and rotate who gets to free range everyday so everyone gets to get out and play rite now bo arent of breeding age anyhow but am keeping them pure
