Maine

Jack the roo is having a hard time these days. He lost 8 of his gals last week, and an other 3 gals this week. (I'm thinning the herd). He's a lonely boy. Spends a lot of time in the wee hours of the morning trying to call his gals home!!! Working on getting a conduit between his run, and the babies run so both flocks can mingle. He'll pick up 9 pullets when that happens. (9 roos also, but hoping he won't mind their shenanigans.) As soon as they are all joined, I can then put the boys back in the hoop coop, and leave the pullets with Jack.

No kidding. I couldnt get them back into the coop last night! They had so many new things to explore and space to run around in. They were all waiting at the door of the coop early this morning to head back out. Hopefully bedtime goes better today.

They'll figure it out sooner or later. Just keep moving them into it. I've had my new girls for a week and a half and still have to move them to the big coop at night.

I hope I'm in the right spot. I'm trying to find a poultry swap this weekend in Maine

Matilda & the babies have outgrown the brooder in the coop. I was transporting the babies in a cat carrier with Matilda following. They're now in the tractor in my spot in the garage.

Isn't it funny that getting kids ready for bed looks similar, be it human or chicken? I watched Matilda gathering everyone up for bed. She went into the cat carrier with all the babies. 2 decided they weren't ready to settle down and came back out. She gave them a minute or two then clucked to them as if to say, "alright you two, it is bed time, get in here." There's always one you've got to speak to more than once.
