Happy to hear your birds arrived safely, LG!

Combatfuzzball, how old is that puzzler bird? It looks rooster-like. I've been fooled before though, keeping a young pullet in the bachelor pen until I noticed they were chasing her around. She is black, so I named her guy noir.
it's 8 weeks on TuesdayIt's an Easter Egger and has the triple row rose comb of a Rooster but it's not as developed as the other 2 roosters and it's also paler. Plus it holds it's tail like the hens.

Hi, My 1 yr old easter egger was laying, then quit,
now it walking around and stopping, seeming to fall asleep on its head,
kinda lethargic like, it jumped up into the nest box stayed awhile then jumped out earlier today, then went and dug a nest (this is where it usually lays her eggs
now she's leaned up against the water tank standing there in a stupor,
it'd drinking, and eating, and pooping normal, and is up and running at times,

any ideas?

all my others are doing fine squawking for treats and laying,
well ok the other egger aint popped one out for a few days, but BOTH of them have just started laying eggs this spring,

gawd i hope nutting wrong with her
she is a beautiful gold necked egger,

John

I had a rooster that became suddenly lethargic and I thought he had a heart attack or stroke. At one point, I thought he had died, as he slept without lifting his head for 24 hours. I was shocked to see he was breathing the next morning and started force-feeding. He slowly came back to life and was fairly normal, although sleepier than my other roosters.
I also had a hen I named narcolepsy, because she fell asleep at all hours.
If this is a new behavior for your EE and you think she might be egg-bound, you might consider giving her a soak in a warm bath. Some calcium might help too, -I crushed up calcium and sprinkled it on scrambled eggs for a hen with laying issues and she is fine now. Good luck with her!

Oh happy day. I put a water fount outside for my flock today. Time to clean up the heated waterer and put it away. Spent several hours transplanting seedlings into 6 packs and 4" pots. Almost done transplanting. Short row of sugar snaps and spinach planted yesterday.

Chicks are growing like weeds.

I hung her upside down between my legs and stroked her neck, felt a bulge pushed on it and she puked it up/down-out,,
she got on her perch last night, and this morning she's out running around with the others, and eating just fine,
i did see her expel a fluid instead of a solid, but time will tell, so far so good I'm not a chicken doc, and first time I've ever choked my chicken
had a flattened blue egg in the nest box, don't know if it was hers or her sisters, but also put out some calcium with there food,

cheers

Glad to hear your hen is feeling better. I wonder if she was having problems with her crop. I've had to treat sour crop before, - easy to treat, but kind of a pain. Most of us aren't chicken doctors, which is what makes this whole process both frustating and mysterious!

I switched to nipple waterers last week when I moved the flock out of their cramped quarters and into their hopefully-now-secure coop. I keep worrying the nipples will freeze up on these chilly mornings, but so far, so good.

I'm wondering if I should put the peas in now, or wait until the weekend. Yesterday I set up the poles. Some of the holes started to fill with water when I got down a foot or two. And now we are going to have temperatures in the 40's for five days. Will they germinate at that temperature? It is supposed to warm up again this weekend.
