Maine

Sorry about the big pine tree!
Are you getting rid of roosters only, or pullets too (beyond the ones you are keeping)? I am picking up a few day-old pullets in the Portland area on Friday, and could raise them together perhaps, but I imagine it would be a while before you can sex them. I am trying a hatch soon, so maybe it would be unwise to take on anything new until I see how the hatch goes. I might run out of room!
Where in mid-coast Maine?

Yeah, it's hard because I want to get rid of the extras ASAP, but I want to make sure I get what I need as well.
I'm sure I'll have a couple of extra pullets as well as the roos.
I' in So. Thomaston - Next door to Rockland.

Maybe you could let me know, once you know exactly what you have, and what you are keeping. If the timing is right, I'd love to have some!

Right now, I have an Easter Egger rooster. I tried to hatch 20 eggs, and only ONE was fertile, so I have one lonely egg in the incubator

(2 days to go). I'm going to try again, and if he still isn't showing much fertility, maybe I'll replace him. I'm working on getting some olive eggers.

Where did you get your birds?

anyone have any gold laced or silver laced polish? I need bearded , will see what the local stores get but wondering if anyone had any?

I did a little hen shuffling this weekend. I sold 3 of my Black Sexlinks hens and 1 of my Brahma hens. I picked up 2 Americauna hens and got the wife a Giant Cochin hen. Finally done with the chicken coop, only thing left is putting on the molding trim work. It took me some time to build, partly from doing all the work by myself and mostly I was being too picky. I wanted it done right and done the way I wanted it and everyone knows if you want it done right, do it yourself. LOL I'm putting the run together tomorrow, it's a 10' x 6' chain link dog kennel. The chicks will be out playing this week.

Speed... I'm jealous. We are just starting our new coop and I want it done yesterday!!! At this rate My garden will go in really late... can't plant while the hens are free ranging! Only my transition/brooder coop has a run right now. Just moved 6 of my rowdy (probably rooster) chicks from the office brooder to the transition coop last night. It was a lot quieter in the office last night!!!! They made it through the night out there even though we had a power outage at some point. Poor birdies. Spring seems so slow in coming this year!

is in Five Islands and new to raising chickens. Has had a coop in the dooryard for 3 years and my anti chicken husband has finally conceded. I got 6 chicks and he didn't have a heart attack so I just got six more. I don't want to push my luck, but I am already hooked. After a while it will seem like we have always had chickens, and I eventually plan to sneak home a few goats. Heh heh heh
