My boyfriend and I are on day 13 of bumblefoot soaks for a leghorn living in my basement right now... the thing is starting to LOVE foot soaks. She gets up on the kitchen counter, looks through a window, soaks her feet in warm water and epsom salts (then later tetracycline) while preening herself. Today she fell asleep standing in the water.

She poops on my counter every single day, too. And sometimes more than once. I put towels down but she's a master at pooping right where the towel meets the counter or right when I lift her up to ointment and cover her feet.

Hi SCG, something that I found worked for my gals is to soak their feet in warm water, betadine and debreed the area and once done, use bag balm mixed with a dot of Durramycin in it, then put them in a small area, a lot of shavings and Durramycin sprinkled onto the shavings so that once the balm has gone, the antibiotic is still there. I had a few birds with it and this actually took care of issues. Good luck and hope you get that cleared up. Often its from jumping straight down, then staff infection gets in (someone correct me if I'm wrong) but this worked for me in 4 days, cleared up.

Is anyone interested in some peacocks. Have 4 male. 1 Black Shoulder, 1 Blue, 1 Pied and 1 Java. Two of them just got their tail feathers and the other two have not. They are 3 years old or so

We have baby chicks! We let Rocky (our broody barred rock) sit on some eggs, we've been candling the eggs every few days. I marked the calender for the 20th and yesterday a chick hatched, then another today. We will have 4 more through out the week, I suspect 1 a day. I set up our small coop as a brooder house and momma is in there with the eggs and 2 chicks.

I have the permit, you get it from fish and wildlife (your local game warden). they come inspect where you will keep them and you have to list what species you are planning to keep on your permit. there is no fee to get one. maybe your freind doesn't have a permit but that doesn't mean you don't have to have one. if you lack one, the state can come and take them as well as any other exotic game birds you might also have.

That would make a great coop for some! I looked and looked for hours on there trying find free sheds or out buildings to transform into a coop. I gave up and just built one. I spent less than $100.00 but I used a lot of reclaimed and salvaged wood.

Another chick hatched today. I'm just calling them mutts. The rooster is a Brahma and I don't know which eggs came from what hen. LOL
They are all fuzzy yellow right now. I can't wait to see what the end results will be. Mental picture: Brahma x Barred Rock Giant Cochin. That would be funny. Or Brahma x speckled sussex. We'll have to wait and see. Rocky is a great mother, she growls at me when I open the coop door to check on her and the chicks.
