at last check, dr carr was not taking any new bird clients and some old ones he was no longer seeing. there are testers in the state, I had austin brann test mine- $10 for any number of birds. he can test them at his place (he prefers) or he also tests at our poultry meetings (this sunday in washington at the eastern star grange hall)- pmme for his phone number. you'll need to have a certain % of your flock done- anmd usually the first time, it's all birds over 1 yr.

Thanks for the info Hoppy. Where does he live? I may have an issue getting ALL of my birds there. My car won't hold many carriers, spose I could rent a Uhaul.

I might be mistaken but I think HE comes to YOU.

Can you imagine returning that uhaul?

Austin doesn't come to you....he tests at his place, meetings and sometimes at certain shows.

Bill Morrison is the tester who travels around. (207) 287-33701

Hello! How are your Brahma's laying? I only have one, and she is not very productive. I'm trying to find out if that is typical, or if it is just hatchery stock.
My Brahma has big personality though, and I am mulling over hatching some this spring.

Meanwhile, we purchased eggs yesterday.

We get about 18 a week, but provide DH's 91 year old father with a dozen per week, and need some for holiday baking.

UGH!!! I have been buying eggs for a couple of months now. Our little flock of 5 consists of 2 full grown barred rocks that don't seem to be in a laying mood lately, a cochin roo, a sizzle roo, and a little bantam cochin hen that hasnt started laying yet. So no eggs for us. I cannot wait for the sprring when I can add some more hens to our flock and actually get some eggs!

well as far as eggs go my hens have been doing 6 to 8 eggs a day from 9 hens but ive been leaveing the light on in the coop all night for them its just one of them cone type cfl lights that is equil to a 60 watt bulb and the coop is 8x12 so its not really bright but seem to be working good for them and i put metal roofing with a white plastic roofing for letting more light in the coop in the day time along with a window they all seem to be happy so far and i did put 19 eggs in the incubator on the 11th so im hopeing to get some newyears chicks and ive been talking to my wife trying to get her to letting me hatch out a bunch this winter right now she said just this batch till march but im trying lol

I just hatched out 6 little babies, 5 silkies and 1 orpington. I have 6 more orp eggs chill'n and once my ordered orp eggs arrive, all will go in the incubator. I'm ready for spring, hoping hatching makes it feel like spring, if nothing else, I will have POL pullets in the spring.

My brahmas are laying an egg a day. My brahma rooster is HUGE. I like them, they are very friendly.
