I guess this is the year for personal tragedies, but I must say my poultry friends are steadfast and true - always hungry, thirsty and just being chickens - unlike humans who are not always genuine.

I'll be at the Wilton swap tomorrow with some LF cochin and red production pullets. Also some d'uccles. I'm there early....after it gets hot, I'm GONE

Hope you all have a great week and a wonderful 4th of July! We're leaving this morning for vacation, headed up to Greenville until Thursday. I am SOO excited! Used to go up there all the time with my grandparents as a kid, I feel more at home there than anywhere else. We only get to go about once a year now, so it has been hugely anticipated!! Of course I was up way too late packing, but at least DH can drive so I can nap! lol

I've lost two of my favorite birds in the past two weeks-- executed one this morning. Her eye worm was not clearing up fast enough and I didn't read read read like usual so .... I 'ended her suffering'... only to wonder if I could have tried harder.

any one looking for a chicken tractor? I have several large cages very suitable for tractors, these are 4' tall, 7 long, you can easily add a wheel kit (or not) , add a tarp and you are in business. pretty much predator proof. $35 each, you have to pick up with a truck or trailer, I have no way to get these delivered. pick up in albion

Do you think I could fit one in the back of a Honda Element (no seats)? I have 4 ducklings in my living room that are driving me *nuts*....

I'm glad you asked this because I thought, of course the 7' won't fit but now I see my error.
but the smaller cages might fit (2x2x3 or 4'). the 7' long are 48" tall. looking at the picture I said that can't be 30x30, it's not square. fixed the ad.

I'll talk to my fiance today...he really wants to build our tractors and coop stuff himself, but he works full-time mostly nights, so I've still got 16 six-week-old chickens and 4 six-week-old ducks in my living room/kitchen. getting really sick of wiping poultry dust off my dishes...so I'm thinking it's time for a bought-in solution. He did build one tractor, but it doesn't have a bottom and we have foxes at the bottom of the garden, so I don't want to leave them out overnight in it.

I have a fox hanging around to, these cages are pretty strong and I doubt it could get through, I don't believe a dog could get in either.

We saw a fox on the edge of our yard this week, too. He has not gone after the chickens yet, but it makes me nervous. They are very secure at night, but not so much during the day.

We are giving 4 hens to a friend that wants to get started with chickens. I separated them out today into a smaller section of the coop, so they will be easy to catch tomorrow when they come to pick up. I was thinking I would miss them quite a bit, but they are making so much noise in their enclosed area that I may be happy to see them go! . What a ruckus.
