Maine

I bought this big black wyandotte roo and had him brought to maine from VA. something took him on the one day I let them out of the run for just a few hours, grrrrr. I guess i can be thankful I have some chicks from him but god that was an expensive chicken dinner!
Sorry you lost your Roo, any Idea what got him ?

I'd say clucksy will probably lay olive since she's a cross of a brown and green layer. I have some turken x EE crosses that lay olive eggs - same type of cross. They're hilarious with their naked neck and puff cheeks.

Been a long day for me. My Horse seems to have broke a bone in her hoof or has something going on , came on all of a sudden ,farrier was here we have her hoof wrapped and booted will be working on her hoof tomorrow . one of my month old guineas got loose, that little bugger can move like lightening ,ended up going in the enclosed pen so I caught em. had 2 loose pullets they are back where they belong, and my silkies were just kind of watching all the comotion lol. still trying to get to get pictures of my cuties, sizzles and silkies they are so adorable ! My aussie got into something and vomited all over the floor. Its about 8:30 pm and I am tired , finally got to sit for a bit.
still have to candle my eggs and get them ready for sale. All in a day Ha Ha way it goes sometimes. oh and in the process of putting up chicken runs and trying to finish the hen house. busy busy. Gotta go tend to eggs.

Maybe you can get some kind of cheap fencing to attach to the run. It would keep them contained, but give them access to some greens. We have non-electrified electric fencing connected to the run, which we move every month or two over two general locations. We plant grass seed on the empty half. They are only out there when we are home, for the most part.
I'm thinking of trying something like snow fence with fiberglass poles for my other flock. The wire fence is 4 feet tall, and only one hen flies over it.
I think we came up with a solution- in the treeline between the two properties, there is a rock wall ( why can't I just tell the chickens to not go over it..?) I'm thinking we can get a few cheap rolls of fencing like you mentioned bucka, and place it along the rock wall. I'm thinking that even if it's only about 4 feet high, it will be enough of a barrier so that they will turn around and come back our way...I mean we have 2 and a half acres here for goodness sakes, and our other neighbor, who has about 6 acres, loves so see the chickens on their lawn- how happens my chickens can't be happy with what they have got?

So my free range flock is going to not be so free range anymore- our other neighbor came over to express his dislike for them showing up on his lawn- I had no idea they were even going over there- there is a nice thick treeline between the properties... He says he is wanting to put his house on the market, and does not want perspective buyers to think they will be "invaded" by chickens ( his exact words) I wanted to say "FINE, NO EGGS FOR YOU" but agreed to keep them in their run unless we were home. I felt bad leaving for work today- they were all standing by the run door looking very sadly at me...!

Ech that sucks. I feel the same way now. I can't let mine out since I have to worry about the Bumpus' hounds next door :(

Goodluck with the horse. I hate to see a lame animal and am distinctly fond of horses.

Must be something in the air. I have chased more critters in the past week. And the dog puking happened here, too. Not just a little mind you but a sprawling muddy puddle. Gack. I have four broodies here. I know, its late, but I won't make them stop. Our first broody was awful. No babies. I tried with an incubator. I was awful. No babies. DH ordered a Hovabator. It didn't come. No babies. SO, if even one little fluffy comes out of these three nests then I am going to jump around like a jack rabbit on a bed of coals.

hopefully today will be a better day, good luck with the horse.

Thanks, My horse is doing better to day with the padded hoof and boot. farrier will be back to day so we can do a re wrap etc, God I pray she will heal, she is a good girl luv her alot. sorry to hear about no hatching it is frustrating . I have a brinsea octagon eco I love it has worked great for me, have had 100% hatch I manual turn, not each individual egg but the brinsea you tilt the whole unit itself or you can purchase a turner with it. you can get coupons on facebook to lessen the price for me it was affordable and can hold up to 24 reg sized eggs, more if smaller has adjustable insert for eggs and a preset thermostat with fan I love mine , plastic so easy to clean. let me know how it goes for you. brinsea has a web site my shipped out of Florida and was here with in a week. I had alot of trouble with humidity hydrometer finally I went to a cigar shop and bought one nice and small and pretty acurate cost about $24.00 but well worth it. I keep my humidity about 42 % first 18 days then put it up to 65% till hatching, then it will go up more on its own once hatching starts . to get my humidity up if I need to, my incubater has 2 water trays , 3/4 fill them both then on one of the water trays I use a sterile pads 3x3 inch open it up spread it 3/4 length of incubator on one side put into water so it soaks up water and gives more surface area, have to keep checking that side to add more water as needed, this has worked great for me. Good Luck , hope to hear that you are jumping like a jack rabbit on hot coals.
