DH ordered me a Hovabator and it didn't get shipped despite paying for it. Grumble. I got told another way to bump up the humidity quickly is to pour warm to hottish water into the trays. I need one I can put duck or geese eggs into as well. Right now there are about 4-5 doz under a few fluff butts so we are going with that till we get the Hovabator situation sorted. I have eggs coming Mid August so I REALLY hope that is soon otherwise *I* will be sitting on eggs.

I think you'd be better off putting them in your bra. At least you can move around then.

You've seen me... I only have a little breast material and its all for nursing. Those eggs would be scrambled and cold in no time!!

Snowball has this perpetual grumpy face, it is hilarious. She's 9 months old now, giving us 6 eggs a week. Can't complain about that!
Hoppy, Fluffy is a funny little girl! And she has the most distinctive voice, you can always tell when it's her talking. Do all silkies have that sound, or is she just unique?

Our Silkies make the funniest noises!! Like nothing our other chickens have ever sounded like. So darn cute!

I have come to the conclusion that the space under my back deck where I have one of my coops is the retirement community for spiders that were in Lord of the Rings. The deck is about ten feet off the ground so there is plenty of space. This morning I stopped counting at ten webs. Each had a resident with the smallest spider around two inches in diameter. Thank goodness the webs are high enough that I can't walk directly into them. And on the plus side I certainly don't have a fly problem.

Uggh... shelobs! That and the scene in the second harry potter with the large spider... aragon maybe? scared the beejepers out of me. I hate spiders.

I have a large one that makes a web on the top tall side of my chicken coop - it's about 10 feet up. Its eyes reflect in my headlamp when I go out at night. It's terrifying. Last time I painted I asked the girl next door to come over and defend me with a broom while I painted that side of the coop.

We have a beautiful spider here that we all went and took pictures of this past weekend. I believe it was an orb spider but not sure which kind. SO pretty with its long yellow and black body and perfect web. I'll admit the old barn spiders made me nervous as a kid but they are rare now. There is another spider taking over which I like less. Another brown one but I can't remember. The coolest spider I ever saw was this male Arrow Michrathena. Weird and cool. Alright, water spider with me swimming make me nervous jiggly, too. I have to admit if they are in a web I like them. I tell the kids they have jobs here. When we moved into this place with its big barn and 200 years of existing I did ask if it had barn spiders and they said no. In all the years I had to run under them as a kid not one ever bothered me. Unlike water spiders and those little goldenrod ones. They are just nasty. Oh, and jumping spiders, while pretty can sometimes be aggressive too. I am amazed that something so small can intimidate me like that-- or would TRY.

Aragog (spider) was in Harry P and Aragorn (man) was in LOR... the large spider at the end of LOR was Shelob.

Lost a chicken for a stupid reason the other day and I don't know if I should be sad mad or indifferent. Indifferent is easiest. My best Cream Legbar jumped into a large bucket of water and drown. Edited to add that my daughter found him floating in there.

That's a darn shame Hoppy. If your run is not covered with netting or something, sounds like it was maybe a hawk who could not carry him away. It's always heartbreaking to lose an extra special one, or any one for that matter.

Can you maybe thread some netting through the tree line where they like to cross through? Probably impractical, know it would be at our place, but ours seem to know their boundaries, and don't have close neighbors. What a sourpuss he must be! Hope he sells the house soon!
