babies are still hatching. my incubator temp must have been low, they are 3 days late. so far it's 6 painted silkies and 4 solid blue silkies that carry paint with at least 2 more working at getting out.

Hoppy, congrats and good luck. I would love to see pics, especially of your set up :)

Wow, the Cuckoo silkies is pretty cool! A hen I might gobble up (not literally) but no more boys!

So, here are the new babies- quick, early morning pics.

They always poop in the hand! Why do they wait for the hand!?

I am not a fan of having them inside but here we go. My broody gave up after the last egg failed about three days ago. I was really hoping but... no luck for me. I still don't feel safe having a brooder outside, without my supervision. I might try for a brooding pen here in the elle or barn so that its closer by, with less traffic- ie less dust to catch fire, and give myself a break there, but that will wait till they are a bit more feathered out. So much to do and so little sleep....

WAHOO. I've finally got an egg! I just went out and found it in the nest box- I suspect it was Gerda the Barred Rock- who is 22 weeks today. Let's hope the rest of the ladies get the idea!

Congrats, Mainechick! That looks to be a pretty good size egg for a first lay. At least two of my bantams have started to lay on and off (2 different shades of tan and some days I get 2), the eggs are the cutest little things and tasty (4 make a good omlet!).
