Anyone else a member of the Purina Difference rewards program?

I am and while I find Purina a bit more expensive than Poulin or Blue Seal I do like the coupons I get once a quarter. And I do feed the Flock Raiser since I always seem to have chicks, ducks and turkeys at the same time. It is free to join and if anyone uses my code I get and extra $5 off coupon next quarter.

I notice Blue Seal is changing the packaging for their poultry feeds. Was told the ingredients are changing a bit too. Haven't done any research to see what has/is changing though. I got two bags of the new formula on Wednesday. Almost $15.50 a bag,

They aren't much different. My feed store gave me the new brochure (Blue Seal). I'm excited that the 28% turkey starter now comes in unmedicated and in pellets instead of just crumbles. The worst part I think is the bags are shiny, my dump won't take them to recycle like the old bags.

I buy Purina all the time, and I don't know about any reward program. How do I sign up and what is your code?

Do you have any books/websites etc for someone that wants to start out on bees but doesn't know a thing about them?

This is a good place to start. Plenty of information. If you are really interested I would suggest taking one of the beginner/intro courses next year. Bees aren't that difficult to have since they mostly take care of themselves especially in winter. But they are prone to mites and a few other things that we need to help them with. It is the initial $ output that gets you. And buying used equipment isn't a good idea since there is a good chance it is contaminated.

I know a few things that can go wrong in winter, since Jack had bees and things went wrong:

Do not open the hive constantly in the winter, even if you find it fascinating. The bees will freeze.

Do not let the bees run out of sugar water. They will starve.

Do not get a styrofoam hive for warmth and forget to vent it. It will mold.

Do not forget to treat for mites, or the bees will die.

Do not develop a life-threatening bee allergy (that ended our stint with bees)!

This is how I feel today.

I don't to chase chickens. I don't want to chase anything.
I want to lay on the floor and just watch it all go by for a while.

I feel the same way. just burnt out. i'd go back to bed but I just got up 2 hours ago. horrible headache all night long. hoping tomorrow will be so much better. resting today.
you better do that too Ash.

Just picked up the two Muscovies.

They are black and white pied and still actively laying. Maybe they will encourage the others to start.

Decided to fire up the pellet stove this afternoon. House was down to 58 and being wet and cool out made a fire seem appropriate. Hate to start heating so early in the year but boy does the fire look and feel nice. House is now a toasty 67.

And just to get me in the mind frame of winter I spent a couple hours this morning getting in some OJT at the airport. Haven't been in a de-icing truck since April and it was nice to get a chance to get up in the bucket and practice. What the passengers thought in the planes that went by I have no idea. We had about 8 luggage carts/trucks lined up with buckets and poles attached to aim at with the spray. Those were the wings. Then we had our van acting as the nose of the plane and another de-icing truck with the bucket up to represent the tail. Hey. It worked. And where else but in Maine would you see such a set up.
