Our house flooded Monday morning so my egg gathering was a bit off because of all the drama of that, but it seems my 2 young Ameraucana’s started laying, and sadly it seems they BOTH lay BROWN eggs, I had my heart and my daughter so set on the blue or the green

Is this normal?

Most Ameracanas are really Easter Eggers...and thus can lay any color egg. I guess you will just have to get more chickens!

I have a feeling I'm going to be writing the same post soon (though hopefully not with the flooding part! Hope everything is ok, are you in TN?) when my two EEs start to lay. I'm just hoping by convincing myself now that they are both going to lay brown eggs, I won't be disappointed. If they lay green or blue, celebrate!!

We are in AZ, it was an accident bathroom sink flooding, while we were sleeping

not fun to wake up to at all.
More chicken not sure my hubby will like that as I already have 7 and that make a lot a lot of eggs for us, I have a friend with chicken who would be willing to give me one of here ladies that lays blue or green, we will see if I do that I want to ask DH

You should come say hello in the AZ thread! Lots of us have blue/green egg layers. I bet we could be talked out of one....

That is very common since no hatchery sells Ameraucanas, only the mixed breed Easter Eggers. If you want guaranteed blue or greenish blue eggs, you need to get Ameraucanas (or Araucanas, either one) from a breeder.​

Yep, I got two from a feed store, who got them from a hatchery in NM. One pale tan egg, and one light brown, nearly pink egg. No green or blue for me!

The hatchery in NM is Privett, I believe. I've seen their "Ameraucana/Araucana" chicks here. They're definite EEs.

If you are wanting blue eggs, then you will need to go to a breeder of pure Ameraucanas. This is the link to the Ameraucana Breeders Club breeders dirctory:

However, Stromberg's Chickens does provide chicks/hatching eggs from a breeder in Minnesota. But I would still recommend going to one of the breeders on the list.

Easter Eggers can be colorful, great layers and are very friendly. You just can't depend on them to give you blue eggs or breed true.
