Major egg problem

Hey Gritstar,

Sorry for posting off topic, but I wondered what breed of chicken that is in your profile picture. We got a "free rare exotic" chick from Murray McMurray with out meat birds this summer and he looks pretty similar to that picture so far in color and shape....

We were sort of thinking he's a silver leghorn, but we're not totally convinced. Let me know if you get a chance.

Thanks.

All good ideas. Thanks y'all. A neighbor did just bring me 8 styrofoam ones, so that helps.

Washxc, my adult roo (my avatar) is a LF dark brahma. Does yours have feathered legs on the outside of the legs only?

Here's a better pic of Thor:

I have pics of him when he was younger too. Just let me know.

Mine doesn't have any feathers on his feet... Your post prompted me to go back to the Murray McMurray site and pour through the pictures again, and now I'm starting to think maybe he's a Silver Penciled Rock. He doesn't quite have his comb yet, though what he does have is very broad and kind of blocky. He was born in early august and no crowing or rooster like behaviors yet... I know, I'm not very technical with the chicken speak!

Check for egg cartons at your local restaurants. The little Mom & Pop cafes are more likely to buy eggs retail. Bigger restaurants buy bulk in flats. I have one cafe owner that saves her cartons for me in exchange for eggs for her own personal use.

Too bad we're not closer. I have so many people who save me their egg cartons without being asked to, that i recently put 80 or so 18-count cartons in the attic because i didn't have anymore room to stack them on top of my fridge.

For some reason, people give me cartons way faster than i can use them.

I wish I had that problem. I have 9 birds and only 3 are laying. We have at least 30 cartons waiting for eggs and a bunch of people who want eggs....and we are eating them faster than they are coming! They're all the same age and don't know why only 3 are laying.....FREELOADERS
