for you too. She will be coming home as soon as she can make the trip. I just wish she was coming home to stay. It doesn't seem right for her to be so far away when it happens. I know at some point I just need to cry... but it never seems like the right time.
Thank you all
Melissa

Thank you Melissa. You will find the time to cry I promise you. It is good to let it out. I hope your sister gains the strength to make the trip soon so you can be by her side

Just read the whole thread and I hardly know what to say... I'm feeling very grateful at this moment for what I have. I suppose we should never take things for granted. Melissa, I hope things turn out with chickens. Hopefully, things will be resolved with them soon. It sounds like you are coming to decisions to rectify the situation.

As far as your sister goes, we'll keep her in our thoughts and prayers that she can have some sort of comfort.

I know we are strangers, you seem a million miles away on your little farm, working at the walmart in Iowa. However, my heart feels close to yours. I'm glad that something as simple as chickens can bring people together. I've seen really nothing but an outpouring of love on this thread. Even when people were tough, it came from a good place. I'm sure that you have found some comfort here and I hope that you know that you are never alone. I'm all the way out in California, but I'm thinking of you and pulling for you. I know that things will turn out in the end.

I hope to continue to hear what happens here. Good luck to you!

well the Vet from the USDA is suppose to call me back tonight with the blood test results. I am thinking they will have tested negative for those three things END, AI and infectious laryngitis but will let you know what she says.
On a good note we have not lost a chicken in three days. And they have laid 5 eggs in the last three days. Not sure who or what day, as I had gotten out of the habit of even looking after months of no eggs. I wonder if it is finally over.
Whats left of our chickens doesn't amount to much. My friend has 8 BR hens and 1 cockerel, 2Cali white pullets and 1 cockerel, 1 black copper maran pullet, and 6 EE's all cockerels. I have 7-8 Cochins left including the young rooster!, 3 white and 3 black silkies, 3 buff orpington pullets, 1 dark brahma pullet, 2 salmon favorelle pullets, and maybe 3-4 black australorp pullets.
Not sure where that leaves us at. Or what our plans should be. Seems wrong to kill them if they are all healthy.... or are they carriers? Who knows. Just not sure what to do now.
My sister is not doing well. She is in a lot of pain. She had to put her husband in hospice for a few days so she could recover and is being harassed by one of his "friends" for making that difficult decision. He doesn't know whats going on most of the time and requires almost constint care, which my sister as a nurse has been happy to provide. Now she can't and I just want to yell at the lady and tell her to realize this. She continually says that GOD wants this and GOD wants that. I don't feel like she even knows who God is the way she talks.
Anyway tomorrow I work 6:30-3:30 and then have to go to my nieces birthday party other nieces Goodbye party as on Monday she is leaving her husband and 3 year old son to go to Colorado to be with my sister, her mom. I know my sister can use the help, but I worry about her son.
Anyway sorry I just needed to rant. I will try to get on and check this tomorrow night. Who knows if I will or not though. I might be back on here tonight too who knows.
Thanks again for everything
Melissa Smith

Melissa,
Have you heard back from the state for the blood test?

I'm so sorry for you, seem like when it rains it pours.
god bless you and yours

its good to rant, rant all you want on BYC, we are here for you.

I havn't heard from the vet. I figure they are busy with the salmonella outbreak going on. I came upon some antibiotics and was hoping for some advice about what and how to administer them. I Have Sulmet, and Duramycin-10 as well as some vitamins and Electrolytes from durvet. Which should I start with? should I do test groups a few on each thing and see what helps? We haven't had any more deaths in a week though.
Any advice would be great.
Melissa
