Hey! I have a photo that looks vaguely familiar to yours! This was two weeks ago, when hubby finally figured out the best way to move this. This was originally a tool shed at his aunt's house, and we moved it the 15+ miles, ten years ago. It housed pheasants back then. He wanted to move it to a better (drier) location before it was modified for my chickens...(him giving in to my chickens justified his and our son's need for oxen)
Glad to know mine isn't the only functional but not so pretty coop! LOL
He has it all gutted, and re done on the inside..He built nesting boxes last night, and insulated the ceiling! Next will be the outdoor run!
These photos are great!!

I looked at all the pretty coops all over the net, and planned and penciled out my design. Last weekend we had it pretty much built but I was looking at it and, yes, thinking 'But...its not so pretty'.

But you all are right, so what! Its gonna work out just fine AND it was fun

I should get some pics up before we finish it all up. Who knows, maybe it'll get prettier lol.

All I can think about when I look at mine is what Martha Stewart shared on her show about her coop...mine "ain't never" gonna be like that!LOL
Yes, share photos!

Ok, gonna share some ugly coop pictures! And don't get me wrong, I'm STILL proud of it, haha.

So we're not quite done yet, still have to build the nest boxes, shingle the roof, put in perches and a poop catcher, build some feeders and waterers and install the light! Oh and insulate and then close that in...good lord what am i doing on the computer!

Decided on a dirt floor using the deep litter method, hope to help keep the girls a little warmer in the winter.

Do you know where those plans are? I happen to have one of those big ugly dishes in the lower fiels. Dh built me a lovely lean to coup and run, but he''ll be hunting soon and I'm pretty sure there are more chickens I'd like to have,,,,

This is my ugly urban coop. It started off as a dog house in 2001. In the beginning it housed 10 pullets. I added an addition after a friend hatched 6 chicks.

Some of the girls. 2 RIR and 8 BOs.

Nest boxes. Lil ones at the top. (Can someone tell me the breeds)?

Roosts.

Addition. Brought the square footage up to 47 square feet. Almost 3 square feet per chick. Next spring I plan to build a pallet coop measuring 63 square feet.

This thread gives me hope, lots of hope

We moved here 3 months ago and inherited some old chicken coops with the property, when I say old I mean ancient and ugly with rusted tin roofs and rotten planks missing on the structure, LOL!

Looks like patchwork from the inside.

The flock doesn't seem to mind though... all is functional and now, after seeing other people's coops, I don't feel so bad anymore!

i will attempt to build them a real coop soon... just finished the banty house and it's not too bad.. it's the thread what i learned today .... i can't remeber the rest of what i put in the title.. lol....

but anyway... this was awsome for them all summer.... just with it getting cold and windy now i need to give them a little more protection from the elements.. i might go with the triangle in the corner idea though....

I've been waiting for another Ugliest Coop Contest!!!

We converted 2 old dog houses into one coop. It was quite a task, but we all worked together as a family. My son was really proud of his first building project ever; it was a real learning experience. We read about all the ventilation needs and there is plenty of hardware cloth covered vents along the tops and both ends and made sure it met the minimum space requirements. It's fine home for the small flock we have
- but it is one UGLY coop!!!
