Make your own - No waste - 5 gallon (25# feed) bucket feeder for about $3

So now that we are getting back into warm weather, I have begun fermenting the flocks feed again. Just wondering how these feeders work with fermented feed? Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks
I don't do fermented feed, but there is a thread about it using a bucket similiar to the one here. Fermented feeder bucket. I might try it one day, but right now I don't have the time since I work most of the day.

Maybe that is the trick, I did it as fast as I could.

I used a hacksaw and cut slow. It wasn't a perfectly straight cut, but it will do.

I don't the issue if make the hole few inches higher so no cut require. There are rats that would eat the feed so I still figure out way to prevent the problem. I do have treader feeder, but they don't last because the chickens step on/off several hundred times a day.

I added a layer of shavings and while spreading it I just realized I kicked it into the feeder.

Dang it. I need to raise mine up just a tad more. I think I will grab one of the big 24x24 patio blocks to put under it.

Other than that it's so nice not to have to fill a feeder every day.

I built one of these recently and love it. I did one thing with mine that I haven't seen yet in this thread so I thought I would share. I know this isn't a problem for many "chicken tenders" but for me coop/run space is at a premium. However, this bucket feeder made it possible for me to keep the feeder on the outside of the run where it's not using run space and easy for me to monitor and refill regularly. Meanwhile the chickens only have access to food from inside the run, meaning the food is secure from critters and accessible to the chickens 24/7. Here's my setup:

Right now my bucket is inside my chicken tractor sitting on a block. It has 2 feeding stations for my chicks.
I really like this clean way of feeding.

Fishburne, is your lid a screw-on or snaps on? Can other creatures pop the lid off from it being outside the run?

So my smallest bird. Is able to get in there and drag feed out. So I'm experiencing a lot of waste. She's not a banty...but she's the smallest of my Australorps.

How do I stop this spillage?

The OP suggested insterting a short (couple inches) piece of pipe into the elbow fitting to lengthen the distance the chicken has to reach to get to the food. This should also allow for putting a cap on it overnight to keep out rodents.

Problem is, I'm only aware of this being available in 10' lengths (almost $30) and I only need a few inches. Anyone else have this problem? How are you getting your pipe?
