Nice job, will be curious to see how you like the square option, ours seem to be doing well with the five gallon and 15 gallon feeder. I hang the 5 gallon up at night so the mice can't get to it,now gotta figure out caps for the 15 gallon to keep mice out.
Thanks, I now realize I went all the way around (I bought extra elbows and apparently used them without thinking). The original plan was to leave one side plain so I could tuck it up against the wall. OOPS. Oh well, as soon as it warms back up the switch is on.

Ash, check out this thread, my friend Hennible started for fermented feed bucket style feederand Trst from the Colorado thread has jumped on and fashioned one we are all awaiting to see how it goes.

Wow, still looks like too much work. I'll stick with the dry feed. I did ff for about a year, and decided it just wasn't worth it.
I made this feeder with a Rubbermaid tote, and did two pipes in the front and one on each side..left the back flat and have it pushed up to the wall in the stall. Somehow we made the pipes too low, and need to cut a piece out of the part inside the tote, otherwise the feed isn't falling under them. No big deal, and when we make a second one, we'll know better. The chickens figured it out super quick, all I did was put a few pellets on the pipe and they went from there.

Yes ours transitioned over to this style feeder and horizontal nipples rather easily.

The only reason why I've just built GeekySheep's 5g bucket version (even though it was $40+ since I had to buy the hole saw, drill bit, and bucket/elbow) is because my chickens (6 of them) always poop in the tray, it rarely settles the pellet food down adequately and the screw it hangs on always seems to slip out (maybe because it slowly spins). So in the end, this idea is awesome one and I thank GeekySheep for sharing it. In fact, since I had to buy the saw/bit I went ahead and got enough buckets/elbows to make one for a few friends/neighbors.

those would make fantastic presents!!

I tried posting a reply- but don't think it went through... GeekySheep had an awesome idea. The reason why I think it's better than a steel or plastic hanging tray feeder is because my 6 girls would always poop in the tray, it would get wet, or the food wouldn't fall down evenly, or it wouldn't last more than 4-5 days days in the winter (need it to go Sat to Sat)... overall this design answers all my challenges. Given I spent $45+ for the first version since I had to buy the hole saw and bit too, I bought a few more buckets/elbows to make for friends/neighbors. I think there's a local feed store I might be able to build them and sell for maybe $15? (cost ~$12)

Can you post a pic of this style feeder, I have been trying to find GeekySheep's feeder. Thanks

How is this feeder for keeping out mice? Or could they still get into the feed? I have discovered mice under my coop this winter and i like to feed outside but i am getting sick of bringing the feeder in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out... :(
