Make your own - No waste - 5 gallon (25# feed) bucket feeder for about $3

How is this feeder for keeping out mice? Or could they still get into the feed? I have discovered mice under my coop this winter and i like to feed outside but i am getting sick of bringing the feeder in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out and in and out...

If you could find a way to cap the openings you could leave it outside.

Cap em
I could cap the openings easily but thwn i would have to rwmovw those daily and replace daily. I love the idea of cutting down on wasted feed...
yes, it would be a daily thing, but no mice.

Your chickens don't eat the mice?

Hi,

I hang up our 5 gallon feeder in the middle of the run at night, I am needing to get caps for the 15 gallon feeder we have. Even if we cap our feeders we would still have mice. We have a lot of mice due to where we live and yes our chickens will eat mice. Ours fight over them when they are found and caught.

I went to the hardware store today and looked at the elbows. The chickens really stick their heads in the hole to get the feed? I think i need to see a picture to believe it....

I think there are pictures of chickens using this method of feeding. There might even be a YouTube video, just go through the 50 pages and I'm sure you will find them. This is the kind of feeder I will be using when I get my chickens.

I built two. One inside, one outside. I do not have any rosters but my barred rocks love these feeders. I love these feeders because they pay for themselves with no wasted feed.
