so glad you worked it out

it is always trial and error it seems on stuff like this
Thank you! I loved the idea when I saw it on here and couldn't wait to make my own. It just took several tweeks to get it right.

Update on feeder:

Well so far no waste of feed like before.  The only thing different beside the hot glue around the PVC was to put the feeder on two 4x4's with 2 2x4's over that so the feeder is not as low as it was and not as high as it was on the cinder blocks laid on their side.  Now if it holds up under heavy rain we're good to go.

Glad to hear you have it just right! Silly chickens, I would measure the height if you haven't already, just to have it be documented somewhere.

I am brainstorming caps for my feeders as we have a bad mouse problem. I am thinking of putting a Dixie drink cup (thing those red cups) in each of the holes at night. Right now I am pulling the 5 gallon bucket up off the ground at night. No solution yet for the 15 gallon feeder. The cups are next to try....will update if they work.

Let me know if that works. The PVC caps are not cheap.

Update on feeder:

We think we might have an idea why they were scratching out feed. There was a small amount of scratch that was mixed with their layer pellets. We noticed only the layer pellets were on the ground. When they've finished this tub full I will fill with only layer pellets. We were wondering if layer crumbles would be better but there seems to be so much powder with the crumbles.

I love the H&H feed but it's so expensive ($24 a 50 lb. bag). My chickens love that feed and it smells so good.

My chickens won't eat pellets, but they gobble up crumbles, so if your's are used to crumbles, they may not want pellets and you will be wasting your money there.

Thanks for the URL Link the key is 3" 90 degree street elbow. Unfortunately, the picture that Home Depot currently has attached is wrong. If you zoom in you will see that it says 1 1/2" and it looks more like a 45 degree elbow. Hopefully they will fix the picture.
