Make your own - No waste - 5 gallon (25# feed) bucket feeder for about $3

Well after two months I finally made the street 90 degree feeder tonight after I put up the chicks. If they don’t like it, I think I found a new way to feed one of my puppies

I want to build one but...I still can't see how it works! Is the pipe TURNED DOWNWARD inside the bucket 3/4 inch off the bottom??? How does the food get "up and out" the pipe??
Yes, it is turned downward.

The bird has to reach in and down, and peck feed from below.

Well, I made the feeder yesterday and my 9 birds went right to it. I installed only 2 pvc couplings directly across from each other. Problem I seem to be having is #1 they are still leaving a small pile of food "crumbles" under each feeding pipe. #2 my 6 white leghorns that are already laying will fight off my 3 domoniques that are 6 weeks younger "but are full size" and will not let them get to the tubes!! Those 3 birds have always stayed together and "try" to stay away from the leghorns. I only used one feeder in the past so everyone somehow was getting to eat? A couple of the leghorns are even fighting off other leghorns to keep them away from this new feeder? Should I just let them fight it out? will they eventually settle in? For only 9 birds I was told 2 feeding holes should be plenty.

I'd have a second feeding station setup in another area, so the chickens aren't able to guard the food as easily. We have just the one bucket/pvc feeder but also have a hanging feeder to spread the girls out. It just sounds like a bad thing to let them start bullying the feeder/water stations.

Why I don't like these....only one can eat at a time and they can't see when another bird approaches.

The one you wrote an article on is far superior. Mine feed 6-8 at a time easily, and zero billing out of feed

Should I just let them fight it out?
Nope, I would put in another feeder and place it out of view of the first feeder

hey are still leaving a small pile of food "crumbles" under each feeding pipe

I would get pipe collars to extend the length just a tad. Make sure they can still eat from them, but don't bill any feed out.

Or, maybe put the feeder up on a block, maybe it is sitting too low.

Has anyone tried these for ducks?

My muscovy ate out of the ports with zero problems. I haven't tried the feeder with any other kinds of ducks.

We've been fighting rats galore this year; warm winter + COVID-19 shut down meant closed restaurants = no regular food source, everyone has chickens and veg gardens, and the demolition of an abandoned industrial site nearby, just disgusting infestations everywhere. I can only use metal cans to store food in but I need something like this badly. I'm going to try this with a small metal garbage pail with a gasket to see if it will work. 🤞

Then on to a winter-proof waterer. 🥶
