makes me angry!

Try Buying The Poultry Press If You Don't Already Have It.

It Really Helps & Keeps You Up To Date On Who Really Is Winning At Shows All Over The Country. :d

This.
I have a Sumatra hen that to me, doesn't look particularly spectacular, but a friend of mine that has champion Sumatras told me that she was DEFINITELY an SQ bird.
His words to me were, "You can have the ugliest bird in the world, but if it meets the Standard, it will beat what to you looks like a beautiful bird that is not up to the Standard any day".

If you find a breeder selling at a show, ask how much would it be for the ones they are showing at the actual show, because those are the ones you want. The ones they want to sell are not as good as the others. trust me

Not a universal truth. The birds I take to a show to sell are as good as the birds I'm showing. Most of the shows I attend are in the fall & by then I'm done culling. Any bird I still have then is one that I think would be worth keeping.
On more than one occasion I've sold a bird that beat me 2 weeks later. I know other breedeers this has happened to as well. I don't want anyone to be able to claim I sold them junk. Thr junk goes to a local auction to be bought by people who just want chickens.

You should disregard claims of SQ when evaluating birds for sale. Use your judgement, or ask someone you trust to evaluate your potential purchases. "Top quality" might mean that they are the best that the seller has, but that doesn't mean that they will win at shows. It doesn't mean that he is being deceptive. You can bet that unless the seller is liquidating his flock, he is only selling what doesn't measure up to the birds he is keeping. When I sell, I present the bird at its best, and I keep my opinions to myself, unless specifically asked. It will be up to you to determine if it is what you want, and if it is worth what I am asking.

If the Non-Bearded Silkie is of good Quality it will win. The Delmarva show had an outstanding Non bearded (Had the biggest Creat ever!) win BB and more this year. She was also the RB from the Northeast Poultry Congress in Jan. That bird was bred & shown by Kate Morreale (master breeder of silkies) She has some of the best birds as well as THE best non-bearded I have Ever seen) So yes they will win, but they have to be really GOOD!

I agree with this. I am going to start showing again hopefully in 2011 I am just getting my flock of BBS faverolles going and I want to show the birds that I bred not the ones I bought.

I have seen a few outstanding non-bearded silkies. I will agree, though, that they are not as common or popular, and that in general more of them that are shown are lacking as compared with bearded silkies.
