making a dust bath

Would a child's small backyard pool work OK? I was thinking it would be easy to slide around the yard occasionally so the grass doesn't completely die underneath it. When it got too dirty you could just spread the contents in the yard and refill. Does this sound like a good idea or am I cracked?

Oh SNAP! What a great idea!!! I'm going to get the biggest kitty litter covered box and make one out of that. Now the problem is keeping my cats out of it.

That will work fine! Actually a rather small one will work best, being easier to move. Say something around 24" - 36" diameter. Anything much larger will be hard to drag when filled with sand.

Should it be big enough for more than one chicken at a time? The girls like to bathe together. I have 3 of them. I was thinking the covered litter box idea would be great for one at a time.

I'm in the process of building one of these for my little flock. going to be big enough for a couple birds and have a roof on it so it'll be out of the rain. Making chicken furniture is my new hobby. I'll post pics when I'm done.

All done just gotta dry out some sand and put it in the run tomorrow.

My girls have a extra nesting box full of sand and they take turns in it. While the others make their own dust pits all over the coop!

Chickens will find a way to "bathe" either way! LOL

I got one of those plastic bins that fit under the bed for storage. I got it at Wally World for under $10 and it works great!
