so this will be my second time making a quail coop.
my dad found someone who is giving a large dog run/kennel thing to us. i was thinking of putting a plastic dog house in there for their "coop" and then the dog run could be their run, i guess. it is regular size chain link, so i was thinking of putting 1/4 inch fencing around the whole thing, but only two feet high. is this enough? will i have to do that around the whole fence?(in height) if i do, would chicken wire work above the 1/4 inch fencing? for the top of the enclosure, i will just put one of the panels of the dog run on top of it.
okay, sorry, that was alot..
what do you guys recommend i do to make this a nice aviary?

I don't think 2' high is going to be enough. Quail can fly and some are amazing escape artists. Another problem with leaving any of the enclosure with just chicken wire isn't just the quail getting out, but predators getting in. Remember, everything likes to eat quail.

yes the hardware cloth should go all the way up and my favorite top covering is heavy duty 1” netting. I have also electrified perimeter to keep out predators. but quail can easily squeeze through 2” fencing, chain link, and 2” poultry netting. they can flush 10 feet+ straight up and fly in short bursts. in addition to predator-proofing and escape-proofing pay close attention to gate latch as IME the latch is weakest link!!
