they're a lot harder to make than they look...... believe me.
After having chickens and using one of these that your husband made, I fell in love with it. Worked beautifully for 15 years. Was heavy, sturdy and the eggs rolled easily. When I sold my house in California, I left it with the buyer who wanted all things chickens. I live in Missouri now and am once again preparing for chicken keeping. I purchased a new model from here in the USA. I'm pretty sure your husband didn't have anything to do with it because it stinks. It's flimsy, unbalanced, and the eggs do not roll. I hate it.
My question is, do you think it is possible to buy one of the original types from your husband in these days? My new one is unsuable, a complete waste of $58.
