They do like chickens & guineas. They have picked out or hatched 80% of the birds themselves, but as with all things kids get bored easy. The liked band until a month of band practice! They hadn't given up their love for birds, they still sit & watch them play
That statement says more than anything else so far....both the girls need to understand that these are animals not a trumpet, they cannot sit in a case and be fine the next time you want to play with it. What I have always used with my DD and the birds is simple this...
The birds you wanted will be cared for by you and if you cannot or won't, then they will go to homes where they will be cared for properly and loved but they will not be replaced at a later date when you decide you miss them.
The thought of losing her birds did it. Yes there is work involved but there is also the joy and fun she gets from them. We have had our birds over 3 years now and she takes care of them wonderfully and helps me with mine.
Good luck with them, I am sure you will find a way to convince the girls.
