making cloth reusable menstrual pads

Snegurochka, I make these for myself and use only flannel, works great, is easy and you dont need many layers to be effective with no leaks.

I did some reading too. In time you save money! I don't get why talking bout it makes people blush, all women use these products. So why not use something softer, and not like a diaper ? I talked to my daughter and at first she was like I"m ok. But showed her some I bought from the poster of the thread. And she liked them and will be using them. I showed her how to rinse and soak them in cold water. I keep one of those personal tub things I got from the hospital when my son was there after his accident. So she can soak and wash her own. I am going to give samples to every singl female I know . I won't ever go back to store bought again.

Ok so I read thru most of the thread and I'm almost sold on the idea. The question I have is how do you wash them? No matter what setting I use on my dryer everything cotton shrinks the first time & I'd really hate to hang these out to dry. Mostly because my dad lives with us and I'd hate for him to think they were a washcloth and take it off the line to use in his shower.

I throw mine in the wash and dryer just like anything else. I dont soak them or anything. But I do a load of laundry everyday so its no issue for me. I dont find flannel shrinks so wouldnt worry about that but if it is a worry you could ask the maker to preshrink the fabric before sewing or if your doing it yourself just preshrink it first! I really dont think you need to though, Flannel is so easy to work with!!

To prevent damage to my pads I let them soak with a little detergent or soap and then hand-wash them. I then hang them out to dry. I used to live in a dorm by myself so I could hang the pads in the bathroom without anyone bothering them but I would dry them outdoors in the shade on a line now.

Ummmm yaaa I'm with you! I ride horses & those would never work!!! At first I thought this was for female dogs, then I see it is not...... Good luck!!! I would never.....

I didn't even know these existed!
But what a great idea though! The disposables always bother me, and the dumb "stickiness" on the back is so difficult to take off.

What do you guys do when you need to change them while away from home? You can't really soak them in your purse.
And which side goes against your skin, the side with the pattern, or the white side?

I would use a ziplock baggie for the disposables. Its easier and when you get home, you can soak them.

The patterns goes against your skin while the white parts would go on your panty side. Easy Peasy!

Loving mine so far!

My daughter that is 12 prefers the reusable. She likes the cool designs. Its a lot easier then one would think. I bought a plastic tub kinds like a cat box. I put cold water in it , with salt and some detergent. Its in the laundry room and she just rinses them and then throw them into that tub. Then i toss them in the wash. I hang dry.
