making money from selling eggs?

How do i find out what it takes to sell at the farmers markets?

I sell my free range eggs for $3.00 a dozen, to people at work and now my next door neighbor. I was giving them to her, free (for putting up with my rooster), but she absolutely insists on paying for them now. And this Sunday she said she'd love it if I could sell her a dozen a week. Sometimes TWO dozen. The people at work only ask for eggs about every 2, 3 weeks. Everybody loves the different colors; I try to put two green eggs, two really dark brown eggs, and two white eggs in with the lighter brown and pinkish-brown eggs.

So, I make just enough to pay for the feed. Once the Middles start laying, I'll need to eat a lot more of 'em myself. Right now I get between 4 and 6 eggs a day. Not much of a business, but worth it to me!

I was selling about 15 dozen a week but then we lost the flock. Stuipd preds. Just through word of mouth.

I sell mine for $2 a dozen, which I'm told is a ridiculously low price. I don't care, I'm just trying to move the extras. I think it would be reasonable to pay $4 a dozen, regular farm-fresh eggs that is.

I honestly cannot imagine how anyone can add up the expenses of producing/housing/time spent with/feed/work, etc. to produce an egg, and think that they're making a PROFIT. It might help support a hobby, but... NO WAY!

As for people who sell eggs for hatching, you couldn't pay me less than a $150 a dozen to do all that they do to ship and put up with whining. Personally, I give hatching eggs and newly-hatched chicks away... same for roosters, rather than having to listen to buyers' complaints of anything/everything imaginable.

A few people around here make up the amount needed to file for Farm Tax deductions by selling hatching eggs.
$2500 per year has to earned (in my area) and it makes my savings on property taxes worth $1000. Then there is all deductions on the farm through my personal income tax which gives me a healthy tax return. So it is worth it to me.

Considering all the buildings were here and I just had to renovate. Free ranging saves on feed.... (big savings) and adding up my time per week.........I would think profit would be 3/4 of what I being in. I breed my own birds and use hens to raise them.

You would have to check your local regulations for selling eggs at a Farm Market. It varies from district to district.

Some of the yuppies/dot comers around here will pay $6 (and up) per dozen if they are free range omega 3 organic and you take the eggs to their neighborhood farm market. It is worth it for those people to attend that also sell organic farm produce, jam, etc as well as eggs. Not worth whole day to sell $60 worth of eggs.

I don't have any to sell yet. I may not ever have any if my husband doesn't trap and kill the weasel that is getting into my chicken coop

However I have freinds that sell their eggs. If they are an unlicensed seller $4.25 more or less seems the going rate.

People that have licesnes and permits form the health department sell theirs aroung $6. Yes $6.

I hope that when my ladoes are ready to sell and if it's in time for my stall at the farmers market I will sell mine for $5. $4 if you bring your own container or re-use one of mine.

im hoping to sell once they all start laying and i cant eat them all. im thinking $3/doz as the supermarkets are getting $3.5+. i didnt get chickens to get rich, simply to have fun and make a buck or two here and there. right now im out about $400 on the setup (pullets, coop materials, etc), so im way far away from seeing profit.
