Making poultry nipples!

Thank you! Would you like to leave a comment?:) I don't have any on there.:(

Sure I will.

One thing I'd add is to specify what size wrench to use, and/or mention that an adjustable crescent wrench (easiest) can be used. Ya done good mentioning that an 11/32" drill bit is needed.

And this > Try to tighten the nipples as tight as possible, but not too tight to avoid stripping out the threads.

This is an old thread and a dumb-ish question - but how do you teach the chickens to drink from the nipple? Do they just figure it out?

Also, what do you do in the winter to keep it from freezing? Right now, we've used one of the big metal waterers on the big metal heater for the last 3 winters - but I'd like to improve our process.

My chickens just figured it out when I showed them how water dripped from the nipple when touched...

However, I only have 5 chickens, with 2 roosters so 2 coops - and I've used the Avian Misers chicken waterers which work wonderfully, keeping the water clean and readily available. In winter I'd need to replace the after daily or more, since it would freeze (and sometimes the waterers would shatter).

However, since Avian Misers are no longer in business, I'm looking for other options. Does anyone have ideas for clean water for small groups (2 - 4) of chickens? We don't have electricity to their coops...
