Hey, even if your main purpose is for eggs, taming them helps a good deal. My mom hates (hated) chickens because her only memory of them was collecting eggs from her grandma's hen house and getting pecked every time she went in.
She loves our chickens because they're tame. The only time I've ever been pecked is when trying to get the feed dish into or out of a hungry flock that has congregated around me expecting food. I've since learned to come armed with a handful of scratch to get them away from me!
But I love how they follow me around after I let them out. They think I'm an endless supply of treats. Not that I've ever done anything to encourage THAT idea.
