Making Things Easy For New Members!

I thought this picture in this post was very helpful!
This is an image I created a couple of days after the new BYC format was introduced. Whilst I've included it in New Member Introductions posts, I'm not sure how useful to new members it has been. Any feedback from new members that have used it would be appreciated, so that I can modify / improve it. Thanks.

One thing we really need to do is update / cleanup this old FAQ: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/backyardchickens-forum-faq.204/#post-1198

I think I'm going to convert that into an article so multiple peeps can help edit / update it!

Even if changed to an article will it still have all the individual links to the separate answers? For example the "change avatar" link takes you to an article about changing it. If any help is needed I can do some updating and was thinking when things are updated screenshots of "how to" on mobile, tablet and desktop would be helpful?

Good question. I haven't completely decided. There are pros / cons to having short answers right in-line with the question vs. linking to another page / discussion.

Great point! I've been struggling with this since I want to create a "how to" video, but not sure in what view/system to do it with since about 65% of our visitors/members are on mobile phones.

"We" can do how to videos for computers and mobile maybe not all "versions" but...some?

I just realized that there are three ways to change one's avatar!

#2

Edited to add:
On my HTC phone only methods #1 and #2 work.

Edited again to add:
Avatar cannot be changed on ipad 1. :(

I have tried and tried to figure out how to start a new thread. I still have no idea. So unless someone asks a question I want to know the answer to, I'm out of luck. Can you please tell me how to start a thread?

What forum would you like to start a thread in?

I have a question about whether my chicken is a rooster or hen. I guess I have no idea what I'm doing with the website.
No worries, you'll get the hang of it! I think maybe you would want to start a thread in this forum: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/general-breed-discussions-faq.14/ If that looks like a good place, click this think: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/general-breed-discussions-faq.14/create-thread
