making window holes?

Just to point out, if you are going to be using it to cover the hole back up, you are going to want battens that are attached around the edges and overlap outwards, ANYWAY, otehrwise the saw kerf gap will be exposed all around. Putting those battens around the edges also happens to conveniently cover up your corner starter-holes

Not to say that someone experienced with power tools can't do it safely with a circular saw instead, of course. But because many people on this forum (and especially the ones who ask these Qs in the first place) are NOT and it is awfully easy to end up in the emergency room with hand or eye or foot injuries if you just try to make it up as you go along, I do tend to recommend the jigsaw-and-holes method.

I just cut the window holes in my new bantam coop yesterday. DH has cut out windows, etc with the skill saw, and I tried it, but a little voice inside my head (wish teenaged son had one of those voices he listened to) told me youre not really controlling this thing well, and I went to the jisaw. Much safer, although I didnt make my cuts as perfectly straignt as DHs, but thats what trim is for.

Battans, yes I will be using those! Currently we don't have a jigsaw and I really don't want to buy one just for this, normally just use a hand saw--finally pulled out the electric saw. Been using it the past few weeks and even been practising "plunge cuts?" for my window/door openings. I keep my fingers clear but my biggest fear is cutting the cord, so I constantly am making sure it is behind me.

Now I am on to hinges for the doors! Thanks!
