Looks like i have a solid white roo from the earlier batch and I hatched and I'm hoping the 2 white ones in the is batch are hens!!!

I have a 6+ ft tall wood privacy fence surrounding my yard. When my seramas are adults will they be able to free range if one of their wings are clipped? I don't want them flying out of our yard. I also have a huge play gym/tree fort for my kids outside. It has wooden ladders and I wonder if the seramas will hop up the steps and get over the fence. I don't have any problems with my silkies and polish but the seramas seem to be much better flyers.

From my personal experience my serama can fly straight up and perch on a 6' fence, they may be able to go even higher?? We have had to put netting on the top to keep them in and for their safety from predators. Not sure about the play gym but they are smart little boogers.

Thanks, what type of netting do you use and where do you buy it? I have a huge metal dog run that I could use as a chicken run but it does not have a top.

We have a bird netting that comes in rolls, I believe my DH got it at Tractor Supply?? We also have used one that is 25x25 and is folded up in a package, again I think you can get it at TSC. Dog lots are great for chicken pens.

Here are some white birds!

Well...please excuse the dirt...they were white, lol
These guys needs a bath since they lives the sun, grass and sometimes dirt, chicken-tractor life. This frizzle is getting a bath and moving into a show pen soon for the fall.. I think this little cockerel is too cute! I still need a name for him since he's a keeper.. and I cant wait until he gets fully mature!

and I have two of these tiny A class cockerels. They have been small since hatching, and seem to be staying that way. The one above is their brother.

I feed chick starter to the babies and grower, and then laying crumbles.
Im thinking about ordering game bird food, but I just get what is at the feed store, which is Purina or Dumor here.
Mine are mostly in tractors, so the grass and bugs provide lots of extra vitamins, its what works for me.

I love dog runs...
I hunt for them all the time on craigslist, but use them for turkeys and goats and larger chickens.
If you dont have many predators, chicken wire over the chain link or plastic netting will keep them in. If you need to keep more things out, you may need to get hardwire cloth and attach it more securely. Maybe frame in the top and wire it?

I use to buy tiny spirals, and keep having to go through 50 chicks and watching to see that they didnt grow into them. Then I would keep going up in spirals until I could get a (size 6?) clip-on band or SCNA band on them. It was a lot of work.
Now we use food coloring or dye.
Its a bit messier, but if you dont mind colored fingers you only have to re-apply as it fades.
You can get 2x the records out of 4 colors.
For example, blue on head is Tyson's pen....Blue on Tail is Jesse's pen etc...
You could even do more if you did Blue on head, Green on tail is Breeding pen #6

They make the basic food coloring colors, and there are neon ones you can use for 4 more colors. I even mix them.
You just have to keep lots of records and keep up with the dye jobs.

I once had to leave for work while I had a mixed batch of chicks pipping. I didnt want to lose who was in what marked eggs, so I peeled back a bit of the shell where they pipped and put a drop of food coloring in there with a needle and syringe away from the face to mark who was who.
I got this, lol
