Bluegrass: What color/colors are you looking to add???
None in particular really.....Just ready for something new. I love dun shades and barred as well as other patterns, but Type comes first. Decided this year to add new blood and see what that does for our line. Got a bird from a friend that came directly from Jerry, and getting one from Dianne of Paradise Seramas. Adding new genes makes it really complex to see what it can do to your line... Im going to have to raise out a lot of birds and keep a ton of records to see what new genes can improve, and what new obstacles they create. It will probably take years and a lot of birds to figure it all out and get consistent. I'm just hoping for some new color variations to get thrown in the mix as well as better type! (Praying to lock in genes that make longer thighs....We need that in our line! lol)
I'm not "even" close yet but I love these guys and just enjoying learning about them and how to breed them to improve what I have. I've so impressed with all of you who are getting it done!
Bluegrass, I really "am" going to stop by sometime when we're going out to see the grandkids. Our son and his wife just had their 3rd, making 2 boys and a girl so they're done and we haven't got to see the newest yet so I'm really antsy to get out there, they're in Patuxent, Maryland now and you're still on our route going out and coming home. We have developed a habit of stopping at Frankfort to eat at the Roadhouse restaurant just off the interstate on the way home, it's awesome!
I have 4 nice roosters with good type (could be smaller but I'm working on that too but C isn't so bad) so I could really use a couple more hens or pullets and another, nice small and typey rooster is always welcome. All mine are from Jerry's and I'm really happy with them. We're going out Oct 29th and coming home sometime during the week after that. Got any really nice pairs or a trio right now? larger A's or small B's? Color is unimportant to me at this point. I'm still in love with the crazy colors and leaving the accepted colors to the people who know what they're doing,
If you have a trio of mixed up colors that are regular feathered, email me at [email protected] with photo's. It would be easier if I paid for them before we head out and pick them up on the way home.
Just took individual pics of what I have for sale in cockerels and Pullets.
Im working on getting the older birds next, but a lot of them are going to be solid whites.
I have probably 5 mottled multi colored girls that are going to be in that one.
Weeding through my 5 month old keepers today too. Im probably going to let a few of my personal birds go.
Not very much right now, for BYC, will probably sell them for more at shows when we will have some of our better birds to show off what we have, but I've been doing about 35/45 a bird depending on age and variety.
Well, my first-ever hatch of homegrown Seramas is officially done; the last chick is out and on its feet. From 7 eggs, I have 6 live chicks. Egg #5 failed to pip on schedule, when I opened it up 2 days later, the chick was alive, but didn't survive (even 6 out of 7 is awesome, especially for my impromptu incubator!). Here are the others. My daughter has named them all, names like "Pengie" and "Vanilla," but I can't keep them straight, so I just refer to them as numbers!

#2 I know the pic is a little out of focus, but I got a kick out of this one trying to pose already!

#4
#6 I think I like this one best, just because I've never seen a chick this color before. My white Cochins have always been light yellow, not this pale cream color. I wonder what it will look like all grown up?
#7 This one just hatched yesterday. Funny, most of them had pinkish beaks and feet when they hatched, but that seems to change rapidly. #6 is only a couple of days older, and already has yellow feet.
They are already a snuggly bunch. Taking pics was a challenge, because they kept trying to cuddle up to the hand holding the camera!
