Typically you'd want yellow legs like your roo has. I would enter your little man if you want to have some fun showing

Green or swarty legs do show up in pure Serama but yellow legs are what most are breeding for.

We should all be trying to breed our Seramas as close as possible to the Standard...even pets. There are standards for the different colors also. For those who haven't read it and are interested, there's a link to SCNA below.

What a great CL find! I have heard that green legs is a sex-linked trait, so it shouldn't be a big problem with your wheaten hen. I certainly wouldn't cull for that. It would be a bigger problem with a green legged cock. If it is sex-linked, she will pass the gene to all her sons, so that will be something to consider when breeding them. If you get any green-legged chicks from this pair, it would mean that he carries the gene as well, and you should choose different mates for each of the birds. Congratulations of your great luck in finding these!

Show them both if you get the chance and see what the judges say. The pullet is really nice looking. Better yet join the SCNA and ask those experienced breeders and Serama showers what there opinion of her is and of breeding them. http://www.scnaonline.org/

do NOT have to pay a membership to be able to read and ask questions in the forum.

Thanks everyone

I got these to just try out the breed and keep them as pets. The picture he had of them made them look horrible. When we got them I was shocked at how good they looked, and I found a show was coming up and thought about putting one of them in. Her green legs was one think I was not sure about tho.

Yes I am. I have been looking at getting seramas for over a year now. I am having a little trouble with the rooster he is not the friendliest

First give him time to adjust to the change of moving to a new environment. It may be that he has never been handled and is freaked out by the move.

I have a very sweet pullet that was very nippy with me the first week she was here even though she had been handled and even shown before she came to me. It turns out she was just stressed by the move and new things around her.....she is very nice now.

This is Butterscotch, the picture was taken by Mandy of the Cochin Coop.

She is very cute! The gentleman told me he never really handled them, and he is already 2 years old. I am going to work with him tho my hen is the sweetest thing. My hen layed an egg yesterday and than ate it within 5 minutes
