I would have to buy a box (And pass that cost on to the buyer) and then I would ship young birds. My MIL ships all the time so I can ask her where to get an approved box. I actually have a box already but it is huge. My friend in Simi Valley CA shipped me her chickens a few months ago. They were standard sized. Shipping them is not cheap so you have to decide if you want already hatched birds or take your chances with eggs.

I had some SQ Dutch adults shipped to me in September, as well as the Split Blk/Lav Orps from the Hinkles. It went really smooth all 3 times, and shipping wasn't too bad...especially on the bantams. If it's something I really want, and a particular color/sex, I like to ship started birds over eggs, so I know I'm getting just what I want. Of course, the amount of money I have at the time to spend plays a huge role in it as well...eggs are cheaper! LOL

Ms. Lewis Rich :

I hope everyone that got Seramas this year knows they have to give them a heat source if it gets cold.
I have been told people are selling the larger ones and saying they are OEGs. Anything for a buck I guess,

There are some unscrupulous sellers that have been out-breeding to OEGB's and others to get colors or characterisitics that are known NOT to be in Seramas and passing them off as "mutations" or "sports". Some sellers also have been known to sell them as smaller birds than they actually are, kind of making up their own class weights to get rid of the larger ones. It's sad how people will take advantage of others when they know people are looking for something that is special and hard to come by, especially when those buyers are uneducated.

I agree with you blisschick. I go by standards. If they are pet quality i sell them as such, I'm not out to make a mint it's more of a theraputic hobby. If my chickens are mixed with other breeds i tell the potential buyers what they are mixed with and so on, I just wish everyone would do the same so people who like you said are uneducated wouldn't be taken advantage of. I am thoroughly interested in helping keep the bloodlines clean and improving the standards like others are trying to do. I have done alot of research on the breed and look forward to learning more as i go (hands on works best for me).
