Well, in the true Serama fashion, my first chick out of Truffles by Blu-T is a yellow chick and is feathering out white

Go figure, ahh, never mind.....figuring this out would just be crazy....I love it. Could be from the rooster she was with when I got her, still don't know who daddy is since the color isn't telling me a thing, lol
I am assuming then, that there is recessive white somewhere, Truffles, Blu or the other rooster....or all of them. Still, if it's a cockerel, there is a split chocolate there.....you just won't see it,

The chick is just now feathering at the wing tips. I guess I should wait to see exactly what will happen next....stay tuned.

Next chicks to hatch out of Truffles and Blu-T are due the 14th and 15th and are under broody hens who are setting tight. Can't wait to see what else pops up. Blu-T and Cici are together again and are out in their summer pen outside. The night temps are not going below 50 but I'll be checking on them to be sure they don't look stressed. They're a tough lil couple so they should be fine. I thought Truffles might like some quiet time without Blu begging for attention. I haven't set an outside pen up for T-Roo and Dovey yet but they're next. I have to pick up the wire to repair the pen Friday when our feed store said they would have it back in stock. It's not really a repair but I'm rebuilding the floor of a couple of nice cages I have for them for outside. The pens are about 3 by 5 feet and will have a tin roof and half inch by half inch wire on the bottom. The sides are still chicken wire but that will be easy to replace later this summer with some better, welded wire. There are 3 doors on the front, very handy, since they were originally 3 separate pens that I took dividers out of. They should be large enough for trio's and I'm adding 3 foot legs on them out of treated 4x4's or landscaping timbers. I think I have something here that would work. I'll post some before and after photo's. These were not animal cages to start with. They actually came out of a locker plant where customers could have lockers to store frozen meat in the main walk in freezer and they had locks on each one. They had been in this old locker plant over 50 yrs and still in great condition. When I can re-wire the whole outside, I'll repaint the wood parts. They're all black right now.

We're looking for a good sized, well insulated portable building this summer but if we don't find what we want or I can't afford what I want, it still works fine for them to live in the garage for winter and these cages will be easy to move inside. I plan to set them up for lights as needed for early spring and fall. One of them is going to make a great chick cage outside but I'll have to re-wire that one totally before I can use it.

This is my the second hatched in the latest brood of chicks. (Hopefully the picture works) Three hens are sitting on a total of 12 eggs and so far 7 have hatched and there is another one pipping as I write. Hopefully in another year "Triton" will be ready for the Cajun Classic:) Nothing like a bunch of chicks to cheer anyone up.

Delewarechickmom BOy, has he got the "stink eye" working - he has some serious attitude and he's just a baby. Keep an eye on that cutie

Okay....question, and I need an honest answer...I keep my serama "chica" (girl chick 3mo) in the house, and I'm seriously contemplating a "friend" for her. My "rational" half of my brain says get a female.... my other half says get a boy, just in case I ever feel like trying to hatch any....

and those roos are just so darn cute!!!

My main concern is having a noisy rooster in the house. Now, I had both my OEGB roos inside up until last month, and they were about 4 months old. They were very tolerable, sweet little birds, however, it seems they've hit puberty outside, and have increased their decibels a bit.

Needless to say, I'm glad I made the move!!

Back to Seramas, how noisy are the mature boys indoors...?

Serama roosters can vary a lot in volume. I had one that was so shrill that it would hurt your ears. I have a couple now that, if you're more that 20 feet away you can't even hear them! I need to do a video of them crowing.

This is very true, I have both loud and soft crowers also.
