I know you're an expert - could you (please) give me any special advice/tips on incubating seramas? Thank you! I just want to make sure I know as much as I can about them so I can offer them the best care in the world.

Tailfluff-
Thanks for the compliment, but I am hardly an expert...hatching practices vary from one incubator to another, from one person to another, so I can only tell you what works for me and my situation...

Awesome job at the Cajun Classic! Just beautiful!

I've always used beech, dogwood, and Eastern waxberry branches for my parrots, and now for the chickens, as well. The washer and double ended screw through the wire works great! I also put eye hooks at the ends and quicklink them to the wire.

I love beech! It makes the best perches.

wezel,
We don't have beech trees here but that sounds great. There are some dogwood trees but not on our place. My best bet, I think, will be the grapevine. Some of it is really huge and I love the way it looks, plus it's safe.
Cathy

Cathy, you're right. Grapevine is awesome too! I keep forgetting it won't get shredded within an hour, LOL!

I wish beech were more common. We don't have any at our new place, either. People wondered why I was taking huge branches with me!

Liz - Here are a couple of pictures of the cockerel that I kept back from Leo's last offspring. He is looking really promising.. He is just awesome looking when he is posing, just wish I had the camera in my hands when he's doing it.

These are just random shots from late this evening when I was taking pics of a couple of other birds. He is really small, big chested, short backed, really vertical and I just love his silver hackles. He is out of Leo and my 9 oz. choc mottled (Brian Sparks) hen. I will start showing him this fall along with his half sister that is also out of Leo and a creamish (honey mustard) colored hen.

FYI, these are not serama's in the pic with him

I use branches off our apple trees. I took my serama out while i was cutting a branch off and tested with his feet how big the branch needed to be and he seems to be loving the perch, uses it every night. I guessed on my hens perch but she uses it most of the time.
