So if I have birds that are the direct offspring of birds purchased directly from Jerry's, Seramaland and Bluegrass Seramas lines, how would I word that when people ask my bloodlines? I don't want to mislead people so I need to understand how to talk about the birds and their lines when asked. I've found it does make a difference when selling eggs when these names are mentioned, especially on BYC, so any help you can give would be appreciated.

MY FOUNDATION STOCK CAME FROM !!!!!! I have bred them according to my program. All I am sayins is that if you have never bought bords from a breeder directly, you got them from someone who said they got them from someone else does not mean you have the origional breeders breeding unless they are physically wairing the bands from the said breeder!! some people are very sensative about this. Many top breeders give away CUL birds to famlies as pets, the family then decide to breed them saying they have seramas from so and so 's llines.

Oh I'm not sensitive about it at all. I just wanted to know what the proper response was when people PMd me about my birds.

Thank you! They are my babies

More and more people in our area are learning to love these little birds. At our swap two weekends ago, I rehomed several pairs that I had hatched. The people who adopted them are simply in love with them. So much so, that my last three pairs I needed to rehome are going to new homes tomorrow! Everyone at first was very skeptical, but now they all have Serama fever

Getting specific on who's bloodline is who's, the old timers say that it's your bloodline after approximately 7 yrs in the breed, on a CLOSED flock. With pretty much any set breed, it takes 5 yrs to either set type, or destroy it, within your own closed breeding program. Originally, all seramas with the exception of a very small percentage were from the imports Jerry brought in. Seramas were not and are not a set breed, and destroying a good start can happen in a generation or two. I witnessed many decent birds turn to crap fairly quickly when they were dispersed by Jerry, for lack of knowledge or dishonest practices from those who got them. Then there were pockets of breeders who succeeded in improving and helping set the type of their seramas, and who stuck with the breed. So when you're talking about who's bloodline it is, it either originated from Jerry's imports, or KJ's imports, of which there are very few who actually ended up with some of her birds. I got six of her Red Pyle line. You all have to remember that Jerry lets go of a lot of birds that are culls. And just saying "this is Jerry's line" does little credit to the bloodline for they may be from his cull line. They are almost ALL Jerry's line somewhere down the line. Even Brian Sparks birds were originally Jerry's line.

Make your own closed flock, keep working at it for 5 to 7 yrs through the ups and downs, then call it your own.

That's just my own 2 cents worth.

Anyone have any frizzled stock they are getting ready to put up for sale? And I have a couple of kids here in MN looking for birds, and I don't have anything available. Does anyone have a few good pairs or trios to get these kids started out with? Thanks! Jules

Every single one is pretty overload, you are doing great!

I had been busy myself organizing our very first meet-up for the Inland Empire/greater LA area. We had it on the 30th of April and it was a HOOT!!! So much fun..had 30members and tons of friends/family join in too. ALOT of birdies exchanged hands and there was alot of serious education on the serama breed, as Kate w/ ocseramas came to tell all. There is gonna be a meet-up on May 14th for all us newbee serama people who would like to learn how to show their birdies at the June 4th West Coast Serama Show....
