Seramas are supposed to carry their wings vertical, not horizontal. Which would make that one the only correct chick.

She is a solid black pullet that is from a pair of solid blacks that I have. She is really small, has very nice type (other than her damage comb) but so far every egg from her has been a dud.

(off the solid black cockerel) Her eggs are really tiny too.

I am wanting to see if she is fertile or not so I have moved her from her black mate. She is very passive and did not do well in the group with the two older hens so I put her with this younger group and all seem to be getting along great!

Not a great pic but this is her from last fall before she started laying.

I heard from Ruth after the first tornado, the one that hit Joplin. I was so relieved. I'm glad to hear you're okay bobbyc and I hope June is okay too. Anyone else we're missing? We're waiting to see if that storm goes through here or stays south of us and of course then it may come near Branson where my sister lives.......

I was on call today, my only day off work. All day yesterday there was talk about some of us (Nurses) going to Joplin to work at the hospital but they ended up with more medical and nursing staff than they needed. I'm on the Missouri disaster response team so I have to wait till they deploy me. I'm an hour and a half from Joplin.

Here is an updated photo of the 2 lil frizzled Serama chicks I hatched in March. They are about 2 months old now and still tiny. Both definite frizzles and definitely pullets. They will be for sale when large enough to ship and I'll post when I put them on the auction here.

I named them Gypsy and Gidget. Gypsy looks large beside Gidget but it's because Gidget is so small. I'll weigh them if anyone is interested. I put them out in the wire pen a few times but brought them back inside at night. They are tough lil girls but like being spoiled. Not bad type at all and nearly identical in color.

I have a friend who hatched out a couple of seramas with five toes, all of the rest from there on out turned out with four toes. Perhaps it was something in the genetics of this particular bird - had never happened before in her flock.

Seramas should not have any other comb type but a single comb. If your seramas have any other kind of comb (besides inverted combs and other such comb defects/DQs) then they are mixed. Do they have darker skin pigment as well or a vaulted skull/ bit of a top knot? Beard? White earlobes? All good indications of being crossed with a silkie.

I have seramas with leg feathering - they are booted.

I'm sorry the breeder you purchased them from may have been dishonest. Did they advertise these as pet quality? I hope you didn't pay a huge price for these guys.

On a better note, if they are indeed crossed with silkies you may have some of the best broody mama hens ever. You don't HAVE to cull them, you could use them as broodies and pets. You don't have to hatch their eggs. As far as culling birds goes, I'd rather just find a 4-Her who would love another pet chicken.

I would be calling the breeder and asking what's going on. I would love to see pictures so I could give you a better idea about what you might have.

As far as the chick size, I have had larger chicks starting to turn out smaller than the small chicks - with seramas sometimes you never know. Sometimes they catch up to eachother. A good indication of a serama that will be a potentially small bird will be much smaller than the rest and will stay smaller. If you believe your other birds are crossed with a silkie and are smaller than your big guy I would definitely be concerned about the size of him.

This is one of the babies we hatched this year: A blue silkied serama. He/she got caught by me so he's pretending he's dying.

Looks pretty typey so far, we will be watching this baby. He is my husband's favorite - first one during this hatch to pop out of its egg. It's a very bossy little thing.

Im so glad your ok. How close to joplin are you? thats scary. Yeah one came through last night and got some trees. One fell on a car at the church here. June had one right by her hope she is ok. And carla from mimmisplace. worried about her. is your sis ok? if i hear anything from those two will let you know.

I'm ok. Like I told you I live in a valley/dead zone.

The worst weather always lifts or splits around my place.
big_smile.png
Not even any tree limbs to pick up today. All I got was a 1" of rain and some marble size hail.

I see where you are bidding on a nice Serama roo and hen. They are really pretty.

According to USPS you should get your eggs today.

We were worried about you. Dewayne said isn't Bristow where Bobby lives? I said yes.

Glad you and your family are ok.
