Hi, just popping in to say "Good morning!" Right now, any wonderful color is O.K. Breed for type first, size second, and color third...all the while working to eliminate white in the ear patches. Yellow legs preferred and swarthy or dusky accepted on certain colors.

So there is nothing that I can do to try and get her offspring to be the same color as she is?
Ok I need a fab roo just like junebug said. Anyone have any extra? I have her in with a frizzle roo right now but would love to put her with just that perfect roo.
Thanks!

Find the best rooster you can to put with her....of their offspring, use the VERY BEST son back to mother...trying to improve type (color if you already have the type and size you want). Do this 3 times then outcross. One line (another breed) followed this formula (3 times in--1 out) for 34 years with near perfect birds (and still healthy).

That didn't come out very clear...I meant use the BEST son back to the original hen 3 generations...you may not get her color in the first generation (or you MAY), but you will get it eventually down the line, because you are increasing HER genes each generation (and hopefully improving type at the same time). Each generation, you will more consistently get all the chicks looking the same.

Ok so when you say the best son back to her 3 generations ??? I am still wondering what you mean. I get the son back to mother thing, just not the generation thing.
Thanks again!

Breed the son back to the mother....AGAIN, keep only their BEST son...this son back to the mother (original hen)
Do this 3 generations, then outcross. This is a famous formula....3 x in, 1 x out.

Ok, so it would be:
Son to mother
Grandson to mother
Great grandson to mother
Then great great grandson to a different hen.
If some thing happens to the mother in the mean time then what do you do?
I have always wondered about that.
Thanks again!

Yes, you've got it. If something happens in the middle...make the best substitution you can and go on. To get your color, I don't think it would take more than a generation or two (depending upon how dominant or strongly bred your original rooster is).
