Hey Liz, I am hoping to have some little Lou's running around sometime this weekend, I go into lockdown Friday, I am getting soo excited! Three out of four have developed nicely.

Once I saw Seramas, I fell in love with them and had to have some! Unfortunately I couldn't find any in my area at all. Thanks to BYC, I saw an auction for some Serama chicks (TurtleFeather's) and made my hubby drive me the 2 hours to go pick them up

Since then, I have hatched out my own, sold some and recently found a local woman through CL that also had some for sale. I tried hatching 2 batches of eggs from chickenzoo, but only ended up with 1 roo to show for it (all my fault, I stink at incubating). I was set to buy a pair from Jerry, but another BYC'er offered to send me some eggs first. They just went under broodies 2 days ago, so I have a bit of a wait. Not sure why, but all of my Seramas ended up with J names, I am weird like that lol.

I couldn't get any of them to pose, haven't figured that part out yet. Just getting them to hold still was enough of a challenge lol

Jasper- my cockerel from chickenzoo's eggs (born 3/4)

He is such a character, nothing scared him, he just seemed to know when I was going to snap the pic and kept doing this!

My new roo and his girl that I found on CL (his comb got frostbite last winter, but I think his coloring is cool)

I just hatched out two chicks from the above trio, they aren't fluffed up yet, so no pics

A newer group of 5 that I got from the same lady from CL (they wouldn't stand still, so all their pics are fuzzy)

I know they aren't show quality. They are only my starter group to enjoy until I can find/hatch some typ'ier ones to add to the group. They are all on the smaller side though, I am guessing B's. I still need to get a scale and weigh them, to know for sure. I would love to hatch out a couple of A's, just to keep as indoor pets

Sorry for all the big pics, forgot to make them smaller!

Thanks for looking! Everyones Seramas are so adorable!!

I read that! In the case of a tie, the owner that is more accustomed to winning is declared the winner!?!?!? In the first case, the judge's opinion determines who wins, and I can't imagine that he'd be so conflicted that he can't decide which he likes better, and secondly, the written method of determining show champion has nothing to do with the birds in front of him! I like the miniature horse association's method; all other factors being equal, the shorter horse wins. I think the lighter bird should break a tie.

Well, that was to be the case and was common knowledge among the SCNA judges until I saw this. The bird that was smaller was to be declared the winner, now it's the exhibitor?! I have no clue who came up with that idea, self serving as it is, but it sure isn't benefiting the birds themselves. I personally think the way it's worded is a joke. I'll stick to my ABA/APA shows where they aren't so fickle and have long ago made up their minds as to what they want.

Just out of curiosity, how many people show ABA/APA with their seramas? Probably best for a topic all it's own but I'm just unofficially curious.

I have only shown at ABA/APA shows...because that is all that we have here. There are only a very small handful of Serama in Oklahoma and we've never had any SCNA showing. Only myself (silkied) and 2 4-H children each with a pair of straight feather birds have ever shown in Oklahoma. I have only shown Silkied Serama and everyone has been "nice" to me (at least I didn't get disqualified for being silkied), but I think I have detected some people thinking some strange thoughts about my birds being "silkied"....that is normally a disqualification. I do it anyway and at least people get to see them and I have had some very nice comments. I include a copy of the Silkied Show Standard with my entry form and reguest that my birds be judged by that standard. I don't know if they read it or not, but at least I've made an attempt. My birds are good quality and maybe somebody will notice and learn something.

No, wish I could, but just too far for me. I'm tied to my work on a very short leash.

The hen in the back has a GREAT Serama stance (when I can get her to stand up straight)

You can see their tail and backside feathers are grwing back nicely. They have really nice big chests and when they start standing upright I bet they'll look super!

Those are the new babies that survived. I wish I had pictures of the roo. He was so beautiful....
