I'm soo excited! I've been hatching out eggs from my little hen Diamond, a B sized hen, pretty regularly but my A sized hen's (Dovey) eggs were fertile but I couldn't get them past a couple weeks before they stopped developing. I was told by another breeder to give her time and her eggs should be fine. I tried a few in the incubator then a couple under Diamond without any luck but this time I put 3 more under Diamond to set and of the 3, there is one hatching tonight. The set up in the pen isn't perfect for chicks so I brought it in and put it in the incubator I use as a brooder that's been running for a couple weeks. It's pipped and has a strong peep so I'm on peeper watch tonight

I can't wait. This chicks name will be Uno, for being the first of Dovey's eggs, #1

What is the color of that first little hen? My hen Diamond is the same color but I don't know what to call her.

Shee seems to be a BBR. Not exactly, but it's the closest thing I can think of. I'm actually suspicious of any Serama that's a perfect example of a color variety. I have a Perfect" silver duckwing that I suspect has an OEGB in her past.....

I'm always trying to get a handle on what colors my Serama's are and in the end, I dunno. I'd just like to know which one's to breed together to start getting some colors that are at least recognizable, lol Then I think, who cares, the more crazy the colors, the more fun they are. I guess the reason I worry about what I have is that I want to know what to tell people when they buy. I've decided the safest way is to send them pics of the rooster, the hen and the chicks and let them decide for themselves.

You are right

I don't think I've hatched 2 of the same exact color from the same hen and rooster yet. I have been surprised that some of the roosters are not as flashy colored as most roosters can be and they are still very cool.
Here is one of my younger roosters.

This little guy has something sort of like barring....and yes, it's just about indescribable isn't it.

I have read the breed goals and it seems like breeders should care more now about colors at this stage and trying to class them together , in the begining it was jsut to establish gene pool and now that is done start to split breeding groups to get colors to start breeding true. Makes sense to me , donno.. I like a challange...

I dont want to just toss my hands up and say oh well who can figure them out , such a miss mash, lets as a group start making this happen.
