My first Serama chickie hatched today!!!

Here's a pic. The Serama is the little one, of course. We took the pic with a 2-day-old bantam Cochin chick for comparison.

Hope you have two little fuzzy things cheeping at you tomorrow!

I broke one of my rules and peeled this one. Today was day 20, the chick had been tapping and cheeping in the egg since yesterday. This morning I realized it had pipped at the wrong end of the egg

I wasn't sure the chick could get the proper leverage to get out of the pointy end, so I crossed my fingers, said a prayer, and very carefully picked the shell off the membranes. The membranes were blood-free, so the egg was ready to hatch (thank heaven!). The chick seems strong and lively - we had a dickens of a time getting both of them still for the picture - so I don't think I did any harm.

Bunnylady Congrats on your hatch, tooo cute!!!
Sometimes those tiny baby seramas just need extra help getting out, I too have peeled them out of the egg on more than one occasion. I am glad everything worked out for you

Hey guys, I may have a problem:
one of my two weeker chicks is like half the size of the others. Should I separate her??? The size disparity seems to be growing, though she does not look sick. I would be sad to lose her.

If I separate, would it be worth it to put her with the three chicks I have due on Monday?

Every once in a while I get a super tiny bird that doesnt grow. I keep holding it back with younger chicks and making sure it gets extra vitamins and protiens. (I used baby vitamins, and scrambled eggs or crushed cat food.) They do pretty good with younger birds acting as a babysitter, just watch to make sure the midget is not beating up on the babies.

The weirdest one I had of these lived for 5-6 months, and still looked like a 1 month old and still had some chick-fuzz on its head.

I also get micros, they feather out normally though, just stay half the size of their brothers and sisters. I have a super cute one of those now.. Ill have to get pics of her. She is soooo tiny and really typey!

Best of Luck Alanna!
