The Cajun Serama Council, the Louisiana Chapter of the SCNA will be hosting it’s spring 2011 Serama Only Show at historic Oak Alley Plantation, Vacherie, Louisiana April 8 and 9, 2011.

The Cajun Classic and Serama International (official name of show) is the largest gathering of Serama and Serama Enthusiast in the Western World. Our 2010 show had over 450 entries, we hope to exceed this by 100 in 2011. We feature Table Top Judging only.

Friday’s activities include chick classes (1 mt, 2 mt & 3 mt). A tiny serama competition (1 year of age and older, both cock & hen) a nuevo colour competition (new colors appearing in 2010) and Malaysian/Ayam Serama Classes both Cock & Hen. The Malaysian/Ayma Serama are extreme and have a standard different and apart from the American Serama.

Saturday features the American Serama Competition, (A,B,C Classes) both open and junior, cockerel and pullet classes, silkied, frizzle, & booted. The Cajun Classic (2011) hopes to host the APA Qualifying meet for the White American Serama.

The Cajun Classic is unique in that birds are not segregated by sex nor color. Cocks are cooped next to hens cockerel and pullets intermingled throughout, silkied, frizzle and booted thrown in the mix. All controlled by color code. Each class is assigned a different color; score cards and tabulation sheets for each class match.

Judges for the event include ABA and/or APA Judges, Gary Overton, Edgar Mongold and
Jim Adkins. These will be assisted by a host of SCNA judges. Hands on training for apprentice SCNA judges will be ongoing.

Make plans to attend the CC. A chicken show unlike any other. Often times imitiated, but never duplicated.

Well just so on the fence how to get my start - incubating - chicks - established birds - as in a trio - advice from anyone and everyone appreciated! LOL Thanks

It is Day 22 and I was feeling awful - the hatcher has been very quiet. I was also down because I've had to throw out over half of my ordered eggs in the past couple weeks - all duds, not even quitters. Out of 60 eggs I only have 10 left in the incubator

None of that matters right now though - I'm just pulling for this little egg to make it. Maybe his cheeping will encourage the other two eggs to start if they are still viable.

I have had such bad luck with trying to hatch eggs...

I KNOW I'm doing something wrong. Did everything just like I found on BYC...but..... The baby I have now, I was lucky to get at under 24hrs old. I personnally go with INCUBATOR hatched chickies that have not seen a chicken momma. I find they bond better with humans. I have 4 of the craziest assortment of chickens, all aquired at different times, for different reasons, and everyone is just one happy family. Thats my 2cents......

It was Day 22 and I thought none of the 3 eggs I put in survived but low and behold, this morning I see a pip and 2 hours later little Zephyr popped out! It was the quickest pip/zip I've ever encountered. The little one is a loner - for now - but feisty as can be. It is already eating, drinking and pecking at everything that moves. I'm hoping it is a little roo

Here are some photos I just took of Zephyr
