I will tell you all that I have read this thread from end to end. I have serious Serama envy! The pics are great as well as the advise etc...
I am seriously going to buy myself a real nice pair. I got seriously burnt on mine. I will say no more on that. They are nice, nice birds as pets. Very friendly and pretty. My kids adore them and vice versa.
Now, I've done the research and know about the not true to color, type, size etc..
So here is something to puzzle over............
The birds that are breeding are a white rooster & buff colored hen. The other pair is a kind of reddish rooster & a buff hen. (dare I call her buff columbian looking) I have hatched out a total of 25 chicks in 5 batches. Every single white chick is a giant sized cockeral. All the other chicks are some shade of buff, some cockerals some pullets. I hatched out 1 black & white mollted colored, cockeral of cource and fairly small. I am only keeping the small ones obviously and have had good luck rehoming 10 so far as pets.
This last batch hatched out on New Years, just 4. I have 1 that is extremely tiny still. I am sure it will be a boy. The others are already towering over him. He (note I say he lol) is a new color for us. He hatched out darker then any other so now I just wait. I have 3 eggs going in the bator tonight with some other eggs. These are from my 3rd pair. She has been laying for about a month so this is a rest run. I have decided that I will not put anymore eggs in the bator as hard as it may be. I have been good, 15 eggs are going in the pot tonight for bitesize hardboiled eggs. These birds are laying like crazy. They will remain here on the farm, as they have become favorites. I will continue to look for homes for the babies.
I am putting aside $ to buy myself a nice pair of birds, I am considering Jerrys of course. I also willl look into hatching eggs from other BYCers.
Any comments are welcome. I truley value your opinions.
